Romelia Senki Volume 1 Chapter 3 part 4

“Additionally, admission to the healer training institutes is narrow, making it extremely difficult even for commoners to enter, and their training system is highly inefficient.”

Graduation took a minimum five years. I heard some even spent ten. Too much time was wasted on training, keeping healer numbers stagnant.

“That’s because healers require a special gift.”

The Abbott vaguely denied it.

“Certainly, becoming a healer also requires talent.”

Healing arts and magical power alike cannot be learned without aptitude. But those with such talent are surprisingly numerous, unlike the rarity of magical gifts. Though sadly I lack such capabilities, it is … Read the rest

Indeed, at the healing institutes run by the Church of Salvation for training healers, it took at minimum five years to raise an independent healer. I heard that in the first year, one could barely manifest any healing miracles and it was an immense struggle.

In less than a year’s time, being able to use even a bit was quite substantial in my opinion. Though it seems this novice healer didn’t grasp the circumstances at the origin.

After I told her, “If you work hard, it will pay off someday,” she loudly agreed.

Come to think of it, I’ve been … Read the rest

After that battle, the awakened Al and Ray had grown stronger, and several others in the unit had also awakened, enhancing their might. Moreover, other soldiers were exhibiting signs of awakening as well, estimated to further raise combat power.

While it was a welcomed misjudgement, perhaps it was dangerous for that very reason.

But now I turned my eyes from the window back to the documents, pondering with head lowered.

Increasing the soldier count was good, but costs rose accordingly. Without funds, I could only take from what I had.

“Looks like I’ll have to negotiate … Read the rest

Chapter 3 – Negotiating for the purpose of rearmament –

Former Governor Zelbeck came to greet me on my return to Karulus Fortress from Miredo.

However, I arrested and detained him on the spot along with the official from the royal capital I had met in Miredo.

The arrested governor shouted this was not what we had agreed, but I paid him no mind.

Ultimately, there was never any trust between us to begin with. I had threatened Zelbeck and Zelbeck wanted revenge against me someday.

In our relationship, the only outcome was one side’s betrayal.

Of course, Governor Zelbeck … Read the rest

Miredo was the largest commercial city in the Cashew region. Though Cashew was a borderland, this city was exceptionally developed. I walked the streets unassumingly dressed in plain clothes without escort. The basket I carried was loaded with high proof liquor, medicinal salve refined from herbs, sewing needles and large amounts of cloth.

After the fierce battle with the Demon Army scout troops, we had finally reached the city of Miredo. Everyone was covered in wounds and the soldiers were now recovering. My chest injury had just been treated by a healer yesterday.

The healer had instructed me to rest … Read the rest

Faced with the situation, Ray issued orders. Regardless of whether it was optimal, just giving orders made the soldiers obey him successfully as their leader.

Moreover, not one soldier fled. Though I, their commander, was incapacitated, they raised their spears as one, undaunted by the prospect of enemy retaliation and charged ahead valiantly.

Faced with the unexpected counterattack from the soldiers, the Demon Army scout platoon retreated a step. Then Gran and Ragan deployed as the detachment, as well as Otto, Cale and the others, assaulted them.

The timing couldn’t be more perfect, but unfortunately the formation was far too … Read the rest

Al, finally able to speak clearly again, looked at me reproachfully.

The front would bear the brunt of the enemy’s fiercest attacks. For Ray now, it was like telling him to go die, but that wasn’t so.

“Let me say this first. No commander places a subordinate they don’t trust at the enemy’s forefront.”

If the front collapsed, they couldn’t win no matter how hard they tried. Commanders typically wanted to place someone they could rely on as much as possible at the vanguard.

“I believe in you, Ray.”

I gently patted his shoulder.

“Everyone, listen. As you must understand, the pursuing Demon scout team is a formidable foe, but we have to defeat them no matter what.”

The soldiers’ eyes told me that rather than defeat them, they didn’t even see a hope of winning, but I continued speaking.

“They are scout troops responsible for infiltrating enemy territory and bringing intelligence back. That they would gather information on a remote place like Cashew means their goal is likely deciding their unit’s direction by collecting intelligence.”

My words shook the soldiers. The Demon Army’s main force coming to Cashew. That was synonymous with a … Read the rest

The fact that the Prince had multiple awakenings during our travels could be attributed to the “divine blessing” having the power to induce it. But testing that would be too dangerous a gamble.

“Al, many people have died from reckless actions while trying to force an awakening. And there are no healers in Karulus Fortress. A serious injury would be fatal.”

Rather than the “blessing”, it was probably the Saint’s healing powers that enabled the Prince to awaken after intense battles. The Saint’s divine power to save lives even from grievous wounds is likely what led to … Read the rest

I dismounted and handed the reins to Ray. From the bag tied at my waist, I took out a spherical object wrapped in cloth. Carefully removing the cloth revealed an unglazed ceramic ball sealed with talisman tags. Strange patterns were drawn on the tags. This was an explosive magic stone obtained from the Governor .

The explosive magic stones were a kind of magical tool that would explode when thrown. Packed inside the ceramic sphere was a magic catalyst that would explode with just a slight impact. The affixed talisman tags were a safety device – as long as … Read the rest
