Geek Mob Mercenary Chapter 113

Mob No. 113: “If you won’t join us, we’ll blow up this whole colony!”

Third Party Side

As the final maintenance work on the gate finished, the workers and mercenaries from the last shift started returning to the colony one after another.

Only once all the personnel from the last shift had returned to the colony would everyone finally be released from their duties.

The construction company had arranged for the workers to return on a large transport ship, so they didn’t have any particular movements until the ship arrived.

However, since the individual mercenaries each had their own ships, most who weren’t on the last shift would head home as soon as they were released.

When the mercenaries got to the passage leading to the parking area where their ships were docked, it was blocked by several workers wearing assault beam rifles and grenades along with thermal radiation reflective protective suits and physical impact protective vests.

The mercenaries sensed something abnormal was happening, but nothing in particular seemed amiss, so they quickly realized it was the workers in front of them acting strangely.

“What’s the big idea? We wanna get paid and get home quick. Get out of the way.”

The mercenary at the front spoke to the workers.

Then,

“We are the Empire’s Future Worriers!”

“The citizens of this country are always disadvantaged due to the nobles and royalty!”

“We object to that unfairness and will resist!”

“Therefore, we will bestow upon you the honor of becoming the vanguard of justice to destroy the evil symbol of this nation, the Emperor!”

“Those granted this honor may participate in various operations to annihilate the evil Emperor and the nobles who are his pawns!”

The armed workers began spouting suspicious claims in succession as if coordinated.

“You guys crazy? The previous and current Emperors have just started getting the country back on track, so it’s been improving bit by bit. What kind of joke is killing the Emperor?”

The mercenary at the front denied their claims.

Then one of the workers got an angry expression and began loudly proclaiming their justice.

“As long as there is an Emperor, nobles will be born and the people will continue to be exploited! The current Emperor may be naive, but in the future a tyrant will certainly be born again! That’s why we must annihilate the nobles and Emperor!”

“There’s a chance that might not happen!”

“No way! A tyrant will definitely be born! History proves it!”

The truth of that worker’s words was understood by the mercenaries as well.

After all, before the previous Emperor took the throne, most who held the highest authority in this country were foolish, incompetent, and tyrannical Emperors.

However, that’s no reason to kill the current wise Emperor.

“Then recruit volunteers or whatever when that tyrant appears.”

The mercenary at the front spoke, and the other mercenaries indicated their agreement.

Although the workers were armed, most seemed unused to it.

For the battle-hardened mercenaries, suppressing them would be extremely simple.

The workers understood that as well.

Thus, they had prepared appropriate countermeasures.

“If you won’t join us, we’ll blow up this whole colony!”

The enraged worker showed a communication standby screen on a general-purpose terminal.

Third Party Side: End

I woke up around the time when all the people from the last shift had returned and the mercenaries were arriving at the parking area.

This way, after getting ready, going through procedures, and finishing breakfast, the parking area would be free around then.

Most people try to get everything done ahead of time and leave as soon as they’re released, so the parking area tends to get crowded.

Anyway, I’ll tidy up and head to processing.

You can go pick it up right after your shift ends, but the staff are usually busy preparing the paperwork then, so I make it a habit to wait.

After checking my luggage and room to make sure I didn’t forget anything, I left the room and ran into a worker carrying a large bag.

“Oh, hello.”

Since the lodging facility houses workers and mercenaries together, I didn’t take any particular precautions and just greeted him lightly on my way to processing, but

“Damn! My cover’s blown already?!”

For some reason the worker yelled loudly, took out a gun from the bag, and pointed it at me.

“Hands up! Don’t move!”

His gun hand was shaking and his stance was clearly amateurish.

His breathing was ragged and he seemed quite agitated, so I raised both hands thinking he might be dangerous if I resisted.

Seeing I had raised my hands seemed to calm him down a bit as his breathing grew steady.

So,

“Um, what exactly was found out?”

I decided to ask to grasp the situation.

“The plan to plant bombs in this colony, make the mercenaries our vanguard, and attack the Emperor and nobles!”

The worker gave me a passionate response, but his statement rang a bell for me.

“Could you by any chance be affiliated with the anti-imperial movement people who give street speeches sometimes?”

While hoping he wasn’t connected, I asked the worker for confirmation.

“That’s right! We’re acting to annihilate the hated Emperor and nobles! Surely even you’ve been mistreated by nobles before!”

As if he found a comrade, the anti-imperial activist fervently tried to recruit me.

“By the way, were you on your way somewhere earlier?”

“Oh! That’s right! I gotta hurry and set this thing!”

Faced with my fundamental question, the anti-imperial activist hurriedly put away the gun and rushed off in a panic.

This really gives away his amateur status.

He casually stowed the gun, and more than that, didn’t confiscate the thermal ray gun I have brazenly hanging at my waist.

I could set it to minimum power to knock him out or incapacitate him, but I’ll follow him to get more info.

“Is that bag holding a time bomb?”

“Nah, remote bombs. And this one’s the master – the others won’t blow without this one going off.”

Perhaps thinking I had become his comrade, the anti-imperial activist readily answered my question.

“Why don’t you set that one first?”

“I thought a different one was the master…”

I don’t think all the anti-imperial activist members are like this, but at least this guy isn’t cut out for it.

While thinking that, we seemed to arrive at the warehouse which was apparently the placement site.

After entering the warehouse, he put the remote bomb in a corner,

“Right. Once I flip this switch, preparations are complete!”

And right before he could flip the switch, I shot him in the temple with my thermal ray gun set to minimum power.

The anti-imperial activist crumpled down limply.

I checked his pulse to confirm he was alive, then stepped on his neck and aimed my thermal ray gun at him.

I do have tranquilizer guns and handcuffs back on my ship, but I can’t exactly go get them now.

So in that position, I contacted the colony management and had them call the police.
