Epilogue
Monday, two days after the dinner party – evening banquet.
The time when morning light peeks through the gaps in the curtains.
“Mmm. Ahhh……”
As if that light serves as an alarm clock, Byleth lets out a heavy groan and slowly opens his heavy eyelids, seeing a blurry image.
“…Huh?”
“Ah!”
He sees a cute, surprised face up close.
This is the bedroom. Only a limited number of people are allowed to enter.
“…Sia?”
“Y-Yes! G-Good morning!”
“Yeah, good morning……”
While watching Sia back away with a flustered voice, Byleth sits up in bed.
“Ugh……. I slept well.”
“Y-Yes! You seemed to be sleeping very comfortably!”
“Ah, haha……. You saw me in such an unkempt state……”
Still groggy from just waking up.
Sia blushes at the sight of Byleth smiling sheepishly with his bed head.
“Thanks for trying to wake me up.”
“N-No, not at all!”
“Hm? Wait, if you were trying to wake me up—did I oversleep!?”
Byleth had always woken up before Sia came to wake him until now.
Struck by a sudden chill, his mind clears up and he quickly checks the clock, only to find he’s up earlier than usual.
“Did I have any plans scheduled for today?”
“Um…… j-just the academy!”
“We didn’t have any particular business at the academy, right…?”
“N-No…”
“…Huh?”
“Ah, um……”
Byleth tilts his head in confusion, while Sia breaks out in a cold sweat.
Her pride as a dedicated maid compels her to answer honestly, but raising doubts only puts her in a difficult position.
“Then why did you come to wake me up? You wouldn’t do something like this without a reason……”
“Lord Byleth……! P-Please allow me one explanation!”
“Explanation?”
“F-Firstly, I didn’t intend to disturb your sleep at all……!!”
“I know that. You were trying to wake me up, right?”
“I’m truly sorry……. That’s not quite it either……”
“Really!?”
There was no scheduled appointment, and he hadn’t overslept.
With all his assumptions proving wrong, Byleth is at a complete loss.
“Um…… well. You see……”
“Take your time, no need to rush.”
Fidgeting and averting her gaze, Sia seems to be having a really hard time speaking.
Trying not to pressure her, Byleth speaks gently, and Sia responds in a tiny voice while hanging her head.
“I was…… watching your sleeping face……”
“Hm? You were watching me sleep!?”
“O-Of course, I’ve never done such an improper thing before!”
She exclaims with wide eyes, desperately trying to explain.
This maid is already terrible at lying. The possibility of her making this up is 0%.
“B-But you see…… just like Lady Elena and Lady Luna, I’ve also become Lord Byleth’s lover, so……”
“I see…… right?”
“Yes……”
Byleth somewhat understands what she’s trying to say.
Byleth scratches his cheek while maintaining eye contact, while Sia fidgets and slowly backs away.
After returning home from the banquet the day before yesterday, they had once again gone over this topic with Sia.
Because it’s a topic that reconfirms that conversation, they both feel embarrassed.
“By the way, you didn’t do this *yesterday*, right? Today was the first time, right?”
“……”
“Huh? That silence, don’t tell me—”
“I… I did……”
Sia weakly confesses while covering her face with her hands.
“I just wanted to be with Lord Byleth, even if only for a little while……”
“So that’s why you did something embarrassing to me. Staring at my sleeping face.”
“I-I-I-I wasn’t staring! Just looking gently!”
Her eyes are darting around. Even someone meeting Sia for the first time would be certain that she’s just rephrasing “staring”.
“Haha, well either way, you’ve made me feel embarrassed.”
“I-I’m truly sorry!!”
She probably sensed the seriousness from his polite speech, but he’s not angry at all.
“It’s okay. I’ll make it fair.”
“Eh!?”
“Come here.”
Byleth stands up from the bed and stretches out his arms.
Though his words come out blunt due to embarrassment, he didn’t become Sia’s lover just because of the mood.
It’s because he has those feelings that he wants to do certain things, even if he has to make up an excuse.
As an afterthought, he also made a promise with Elena to “make an effort to treat everyone equally”.
“Come on, hurry up.”
“I-Is it really okay!?”
“We’re this close now.”
“Y-Yes!”
She seems to understand what’s being asked of her.
Sia calls out with her most energetic voice of the day and comes running with a sparkling expression.
It doesn’t take long for her to fit snugly into his arms.
Byleth catches her small body with its sweet scent and gently embraces her.
“Sia, just to be clear, please act as usual at the academy. It wouldn’t be appropriate to do anything that lacks dignity.”
“I understand. But, when we’re alone…… is it alright?”
“When we’re alone, it’s fine.”
“Th-Thank you……”
Perhaps because they’re so close, she expresses her gratitude while nuzzling her cheek against his chest.
“W-Well then! We should probably separate now. I’m starting to get embarrassed.”
“Just a little longer, um, please……. We’re not quite fair yet……”
“Geez……”
Sia tightens her arms around his back, pressing her body close and refusing to let go. Byleth surrenders to her pleading.
The more he indulges her, the more he ends up defeating himself.
That’s the lesson he learned today.
Their relationship has changed, and a new school life with new classmates is about to begin.
