Female Soldier Infiltration Volume 3 Chapter 3 part 4

“Candle Night?”

Ian repeated the unfamiliar term.

“Yes. Each person would light a candle, and we would line them up in the training grounds. I thought it might resemble the Milky Way theme. Ah! I just had an idea – if we cover them with translucent paper, people could even write their wishes on it.”

“That’s wonderful!”

Carne took to Raze’s proposal.

“And for the finale, how about sending them up into the sky with magic?”

“I think that’s a great idea. It’s something I’ve wanted to try.”

A fleeting glimpse of her previous life’s memory crossed Raze’s mind, and she thought Carne must be imagining the same thing.

“Writing wishes and sending them into the sky… I think it’s amazing!”

Folia nodded enthusiastically, her eyes sparkling.

“It does fit the ‘Milky Way’ theme the best.”

With Ruben’s words as the clincher, Raze’s proposal was adopted.

“First, let’s make prototypes of the lanterns. We can’t have them burning up after being sent into the sky.”

“You’re right.”

Raze agreed with Carne. Surely, anything that could reveal the academy’s location would be rejected.

Discussing further with the image of lanterns in mind, they decided on the specifics.

“It would be an event you’d want to do especially when it rains and the stars aren’t visible, right?”

“…In that case, I know a waterproofing spell that should work. And limiting the burning time after launch should be simple.”

“Wow, you know that much too, Lord Luca? Amazing!”

“It’s nothing much…”

The conversation flowed smoothly, and Raze gazed at Folia.

(Ah, I’m so glad Folia is here…)

With her around, a warm, homely atmosphere was created no matter where they were.

Not to mention, she got to witness the handsome guys’ unexpected sides, which was quite satisfying.

Raze remembers the stun gun and thanks to certain man.

“How about having an outdoor dance after releasing the lanterns?”

“In that case, it might look better to have the lanterns floating at random heights during the dance, and then send them up into the sky after the dance is over. What do you think?”

“That’s a great idea!”

Claude nodded, jotting down the ideas.

“We’ll need translucent paper that looks nice.”

Addis’s murmur sparked an idea for Raze.

“There’s a good shop in Beeham for that.”

She summoned paper from her home and held it in her hand.

During her intelligence activities, she had discovered a workshop that mainly produced wrapping paper. The wrapping paper for snacks given to her by her subordinates was beautiful, which she remembered.

“It’s a shop called ‘Hapirif’ that mainly produces wrapping paper. This is just stationery, but please take a look if you’d like.”

Raze showed them the sample.

“How lovely, with the translucent pattern. This stationery makes me want it too.”

“If you like it, I can give it to you. I don’t have much opportunity to use it myself, so it’s better for you to use it than for me to just keep it, Lady Carne.”

“Really? Thank you.”

Raze’s heart fluttered at Carne’s beautiful smile.

(“Thank you for the souvenir, Captain Bonaruto! It’s been really helpful!”)

Raze bowed inwardly to the subordinate who had given him the opportunity to encounter this paper.

“Should I go to that store tomorrow and place an order?”

“Yes! If we’re going to be particular about the paper, I’d like to be particular about the candles too.”

“Ah, if that’s the case, I have a senior acquaintance whose son works at the Munich Company. That company stocks goods from the easternmost islands to the western frontiers, so he might know of some good candles. I can write you a letter of introduction, though you may not need it.”

Raze recommends Yuge, who often brings them novel products and sweets.

“As expected of Raze! I would appreciate that!”

Carne looks at Raze, who keeps making useful suggestions, with admiration.

“Tomorrow, let’s split into three teams for paper, candles, and magic development for waterproofing.”

The teams were divided as follows:

Paper – Raze, Claude, Addis

Candles – Carne, Ruben

Magic Development – Luca, Folia, Ian

(Let’s not dwell on the candle team.)

(If I had to say anything – “Do your best, Lady Carne!”)

Raze inwardly cheers Carne on with a warm smile.

Folia, who isn’t good at magic other than healing, is included in case there are any injuries from failed experiments.

(Well, it seems like a reasonable team assignment.)

Having Claude to help procure the paper will be very reliable for negotiations. As for Addis, Raze has some concerns about his conduct away from home, but decides to turn a blind eye since he’ll likely do what needs to be done.

“Beeham is quite a distance from here…”

“That’s alright. I can teleport two people to there.”

“Eh, that far!?”

Luca, skilled in magic, exclaims in surprise at Raze’s suggestion.

(Huh? Is this supposed to be difficult?)

Raze is an ace of Cyan who can teleport around 500 people at once over long distances, almost as easily as using a transfer device.

Though her senses are dull, even for an expert like her, move across nations is an extremely difficult feat.

“Um. There are markings nearby, so it won’t be a problem…”

“Are you serious?”

Luca gets up and reaches for Raze’s charm – a black magic stone earring.

Raze was about to stop him, but was overwhelmed by his forceful manner, as they didn’t interact much.

Upon touching the magic stone, Luca activated a magic to appraise it.

But then, there was a cracking sound, and the magic was deflected.

“Hah!? It deflected me?”

Stunned that his attempt to probe the accumulated information in the stone was deflected,

Luca realized it meant Raze’s magic stone activation ability was higher than his own. Magic stones become personalized, sharpened weapons the more one uses them.

“A-Are you okay, Lord Luca?!”

The surprised Folia rushes over in a panic.

Luca’s magic skills are among the best at the academy, rivaling the very top. He has mastered not only his specialty in earth magic but other types to an extremely high level, with genius combinations and activation. All eyes turn to Raze, whose magic deflected his.

“Um, well…”

Raze wracks her brain for an explanation. Was this an unlucky day or something?

“As expected of the genius the director scouted. I’ve been curious, but what were you doing before entering the academy?”

When Addis asks, Raze averts her eyes.

(Oh no, I messed up…)

She never expected the commoner-hating Luca to reach out to her.

She had completely let her guard down… The three-day weekend may have caused her to relax too much.

“Lord Addis, about that… Raze, you don’t have to force yourself.”

Carne tries to cover for her, but surely she’s curious too.

Raze activates her excuse for when her abilities are exposed.

“It’s okay. I didn’t intend to hide it. I was an adventurer, traveling from place to place.”

Since a similar question had been asked before, Raze Granoli’s background was fabricated to include being an adventurer – a convenient cover story when her abilities can’t be hidden.

“So I’ve had some experience in battle.”

Surrounded by these brilliant students, she’s glad she didn’t have to use this excuse until her second year at the academy.

“An adventurer… Since when were you doing that?”

Folia asks with concern,

perhaps recalling the black scar on Raze’s abdomen that she conceals with illusion magic, officially treated as healed.

“Since I was alone, so around age ten, I guess.”

“That young!? …Were you ever in any danger?”

“Well, it’s the adventurer’s life, so there were situations. But there were also people who helped me, and I got this magic stone. It’s nothing to worry about. Thanks to that, I’m really thriving now.”

Not wanting to see the angel’s sad face, Raze smiles and pats her head.

Just then, there’s a knock at the door.

“Pardon the interruption. Dinner is served.”

“!!”

At the butler’s words, Raze’s expression changes.

(The palace dinner! I wonder what cuisine awaits!!)

Perhaps a reward for finishing their work efficiently. Her chest swells with anticipation. A quick transition from her earlier mistake.

“Understood.”

Ruben responds to the butler.

“It’s a good stopping point, so let’s leave it at that for now.”

“Yes. After dinner, let’s just decide on tomorrow’s schedule, then everyone can relax for the rest of our time off.”

“Sounds good.”

With that, everyone proceeded to have dinner.

(Delicious~!)

Though she doesn’t voice it aloud, Raze’s expression radiates bliss.

As palace cuisine, the exquisite dishes are so delicious her cheeks could drop off. Visually stunning too, making her heart leap with each new course. She’s glad she learned proper table manners.

Then suddenly, she notices in front of her Claude’s hand has paused .

“Is something wrong?”
