The Devil Princess Volume 4 chapter 5 part 1

Chapter 5: I Became a Mysterious Lady

After departing from the royal capital Versenia of the Holy Kingdom, we did not head straight north. There were several countries along the way, and the people of those nations were also trembling in fear of the invading Evil Race- the demons army. So if the Holy Kingdom’s heroes and saint officially visited, many important figures would come to meet us.

Well, before that, it took time just to leave the Holy Kingdom…

If I recall, it took about a week when we went to Duke Capel’s place last time? This time with two thousand people, it will likely take even longer.

Moreover, not just visiting but passing through every territory, we get welcomed by the residents and the local lord invites us for a meal together and such, so it takes even more time.

We’re also passing by Duke Capel’s again, so Cordelia will probably catch me…

But we can’t refuse since Duke Capel is providing all the food and supplies for our journey to the [Militarized State of Terthed] at his own expense.

Three weeks just to leave the Holy Kingdom…

I knew it would be long, but I wonder if we can make it back this year…?

Bang!

“It went that way, Noel!”

“Got it, Ludrick!”

Three “Demonic Wolves” appeared midway through our journey. It was my first encounter with “monsters” that I had never seen inside Taliteld.

Their shape is no different from regular wolves. Just about the size of a tiger.

The three demonic wolves charged at us all at once after noticing us. Ludrick immediately stepped forward and blocked one with his shield, but the intelligent demonic wolves used that one as a decoy while the other two tried to attack Noel and me evasively.

“Lucia!”

Noel threw his golden magic sword at one of the wolves lunging at me, pinning it to the ground like skewering a lamb stew. But in that opening, the other one closed in on the unarmed Noel.

“–[Wind Cutter]–!”

The invisible blade Noel unleashed sliced and diced that demonic wolf–

“Noel!”

Ludrick, having defeated the first wolf, caught up and struck down the last injured one.

[Kyaa, Your Highness!]

[Lord Noel!]

[Impressive, Your Highness!]

[Well done, young master!]

At the end of the battle, the young maids and knights in the [Protection Squad] who had been spectating cheered and praised Ludrick and Noel, whose faces turned red for a different reason than embarrassment.

As for me, I didn’t do anything.

To be precise, I just briefly used a blessing magic at the start, then just sat on the chair Nia had prepared for me.

The reason I’m doing this is for the sake of those two lacking real combat experience. Noel has at least participated in a mercenary group, but back then he was still a child without much frontline battle experience.

As for Ludrick, well, he has only trained against people with no actual combat experience at all. That’s enough for a prince, but this time we’re heading to the Demons’ domain, so a single mistake could be fatal.

So We had Mr. Bear and the Scout Sergeant find some monsters and bring them to us for occasional combat training like this, but…

Frankly, a hippo would be stronger than these monsters. (Deadpan)

While not very useful combat training, since both of them seem resistant to actual “killing”, it served its purpose as training.

As for me…I prefer watching them suffer in agony over killing them, so I’ll just heal them? (Deviant)

For the combat training, if I moderately heal the enemy, it becomes a prolonged battle, so I asked the Scout Sergeant to find an elephant herd next time. For some reason, he turned blue in the face.

Anyway, we’re almost at the Militarized State of Terthed!

There are technologies and people there that the Holy Kingdom doesn’t have, so I’m looking forward to it.

“Eurushia…are you alright?”

“Yes? I’m perfectly fine, but what’s the matter?”

After the battle, Ludrick, who had been discussing the mercenaries’ way of fighting the demonic wolves, said those words to me. Huh? I was just sitting here.

“…Ever since we set out on this journey, you occasionally…well, make a strange face.”

Strange!?

“Noel has noticed too. If there’s something on your mind, tell me or Noel. Don’t dwell on it too much.”

Even Noel!?

I’m completely unaware of it! When I looked at my escort Nia, she had an “Ah~…” kind of expression with an ambiguous smile.

Does Nia understand a bit? But from her reaction, it doesn’t seem too serious. I wonder what it could be?

Well, whatever.

And so we arrived at Terthed!

It took a whole month as usual!

It’s amazing, you see – the border is an entire fortress! We were welcomed by the fortress’ guard troops, and when I asked the commander why it was a fortress, he said it looked cooler.

Ah, yes. Very important.

At any rate, I praised it with a “Wooow, amazing!” kind of reaction, and the fortress soldiers ended up escorting our entire group all the way to Terthed’s capital. …But what about border security?

Apparently, Terthed hardly has any professional soldiers, with most working as mercenaries part-time.

“It’s just the shift change period, so it’s fine to leave early.”

…Is what they said, but midway we were found and dragged off by some Terthed bigwigs who had come to welcome the “Holy Kingdom’s Heroes Party”. How pitiful.

I thought Terthed’s people would boast about their strength like the Demons, but they were people intoxicated with their own coolness wearing fancy armor and wielding powerful weapons.

Closet chuunibyou!

Well, all sorts of people exist, I suppose!

Could it be…that uncle who came to welcome us is the same way? He looked frail and didn’t seem like a mercenary, but apparently he’s both a government minister and a researcher.

“I must have you take a look at the ultimate weapon I’ve devised, Your Highness!”

Ah, yes.

He’s totally a chuunibyou!

So this is the continent’s strongest militarized state…terrifying.

Even Ludrick and Noel couldn’t participate in the conversation, their eyes turning to dots as they listened.

No, you two are at just the right age for that kind of thing, so deal with it yourselves!

Originally, it seemed they had prepared a banquet for us afterwards and such, but the minister uncle was more interested in showing off his research than “such things”, so he took us to the national research institute instead.

Um…isn’t this place full of national secrets?

Is it really okay to show a foreign princess?

I inwardly worried about what would become of this uncle’s political standing after this, as I toured the research on a [giant transforming combiner armor that can fly] and the prime minister himself appeared out of breath to have a heated argument with the uncle about the ultimate weapon.

This country is truly terrifying…

After that in Terthed, the flustered prime minister and minister who couldn’t get things together proposed holding a martial arts tournament instead of the banquet and wanted me to be a judge, but I politely declined. I keep saying this is an urgent journey!

Still, we did end up staying one night, so the uncle arranged separate accommodations for me, Ludrick, Noel, and the soldiers.

For the numerous soldiers, we had considered dispersing them to inns at worst, but as the mercenary superpower military state, they apparently had space to accommodate around two thousand mercenaries.

As for me, of course I got the highest class inn all to myself. Ludrick and Noel also had entire high-class inns to themselves, just different locations. Normally we shouldn’t separate, but considering this country, there were more important things in life to worry about…

They also offered discounts on Terthed’s latest model of magic swords for anyone interested.

Wait, if we bought them here, couldn’t we have gotten the escort knights’ swords cheaper!?

…Ahem, let’s move on!

I don’t dwell on the past!
