Three days later, I finally completed a Particle Armor I was satisfied with. Then, I trained to maintain the Particle Armor unconsciously and could now sustain it for about three hours. That day, I decided to test the Particle Armor by going hunting. I stopped by the Dragon Hunters Guild to borrow a communication device to call for transport personnel, then headed to the Black Forest Belva. Belva was a forest of giant trees. Massive oak-like trees densely packed together, creating a dimly lit environment beneath them. Dragon Hunters apparently use hoverbikes to fly above the trees and head straight to their hunting grounds to take down their prey.
Beneath these giant trees grew enormous three-meter-tall mushrooms and large ferns, which seemed to serve as food for the monsters. This forest had plenty of prey, including dinosaur-type monsters besides the Tyranodragon Bergona. This time, I planned to hunt a Unicorn Saurus living on the forest’s outskirts.
The Unicorn Saurus apparently attacks by charging with the horn on its head. The horn is the part Dragon Hunters target, as it’s a valuable ingredient for medicine, worth 1.2 million Krebits when sold to the guild. At the forest entrance, I equipped my Particle Armor. It still felt a little off, but with gradual adjustments, it should fit my body perfectly. This Particle Armor is transparent, so it’s basically invisible. However, those with Bosol sensitivity can see it as a glowing yellow aura.
I was aiming for a Unicorn Saurus, but what I encountered instead was a Claw Striker Raptor, a dinosaur-like monster about 150 centimeters long with swift movements. The bipedal Claw Striker Raptor moved like a chicken and had sharp claws. Its razor-sharp claws are apparently a threat to Dragon Hunters. That said, with my entire body protected by Particle Armor, I didn’t see them as a threat. However, their numbers could be troublesome. At that moment, I found myself surrounded by five Claw Striker Raptors.
The Claw Strike Raptor positioned its sharp claws in front of its chest and swiftly circled around me. These creatures are apparently skilled at hunting in groups. One of them lunged at me, attempting to thrust its claws into my chest. However, they were deflected upon hitting my particle armor. I don’t actually know the full extent of the defensive capabilities of this particle armor.
According to the planetary information network, standard particle armor can withstand normal attacks from threat level 3 planetary monsters. However, it seems ineffective against attacks from space monsters of the same threat level. This suggests that space monsters are more powerful than those that inhabit planets.
Claw Strike Raptors and Unicorn Saurus are threat level 1 planetary monsters, so their attacks can be blocked by particle armor. Surrounded on all sides, I fired a particle-piercing shot at the Claw Strike Raptor. The shot pierced through its chest and embedded itself into a tree trunk behind it, creating a hole. As the creature fell, I seized the opportunity to escape through the gap, but the remaining four raptors gave chase.
“Persistent, aren’t they?”

Since the particle armor was effective, I fought with relative ease. As I ran, I fired particle-piercing rounds at the pursuing Claw Strike Raptors, taking them down one by one. By the time I defeated the last one, I was utterly exhausted. Though I had trained by fighting Orc-type robots on the Goblin tribe’s spaceship, that level of training wasn’t enough to offset the decline caused by aging. Maybe I should start working out. I harvested the claws from the Claw Strike Raptors. These claws are apparently used as catalysts for special batteries and can be sold for around 20,000 Krebits. Incidentally, the meat and hide of Claw Strike Raptors aren’t worth much, especially the meat, which is said to taste terrible. Collecting the claws took some time. After finishing, I began walking along the outskirts of the Black Forest Belva once more. That’s when I encountered my target: the Unicorn Saurus.
Up close, the Unicorn Saurus was massive. It was about five meters long and two meters tall. Its enormous body charged toward me. In space battles, I fought from a considerable distance, so I never felt much fear. But when a monster closes in within a few meters, the terror makes my body tremble. Suppressing that fear, I fired a particle-piercing shot. The shot narrowly missed, grazing the Unicorn Saurus’s back before flying off. The creature’s horn then struck my particle armor, sending me flying into the air. I spun once before crashing to the ground.
“Ugh…”
Thanks to the particle armor, I didn’t break any bones, but the pain was intense. I scrambled to my feet and focused on the Unicorn Saurus. It had turned around and was preparing for another charge. This time, I carefully aimed and fired a particle-piercing shot. The shot hit its shoulder, pierced through its body, and inflicted a fatal wound. The Unicorn Saurus collapsed to its knees and fell to the ground, unmoving. Relieved, I approached to confirm its death.
After confirming it was dead, I cut off its horn. The tool I used was a high-frequency vibration knife I had bought at a shop in Elevator Town. The meat of the Unicorn Saurus is also unpalatable, so it wasn’t worth taking back. The horn I collected was surprisingly heavy.
“At this weight, carrying two horns would be impossible.”
I decided to head back quickly. Just then, a tremendous sound echoed from deep within the forest.
“What was that?”
I turned my gaze toward the forest’s interior. Another sound, like a large tree snapping, reached my ears.
“Is this bad?”
I considered running, but curiosity got the better of me. Having confirmed the particle armor’s defensive capabilities, I felt a bit more confident. Maintaining the particle armor, I headed in the direction of the noise. As I ventured deeper into the forest, I sensed that something was fighting. Drawing closer, I saw two massive dragons glaring at each other.
They were Tyranodragon Bergona—huge, bipedal dinosaurs, each about fifteen meters long. Though referred to as dragons, Tyranodragon Bergona are not true dragons. True dragons are defined by their ability to breathe fire, which Tyranodragon Bergona cannot do. The slightly larger Tyranodragon Bergona was circling the other, moving in a way that resembled a failed attempt at skipping. It was barking as if trying to communicate something. I felt like I’d seen this behavior before.
“Ah, this is similar to a bird’s courtship display.”
Just then, a deafening crash echoed. The female Tyranodragon Bergona swung her tail, delivering a powerful blow that knocked the other one down. She then stomped on its head. The fallen Tyranodragon Bergona let out a faint cry. Hearing this, the female snorted, turned away, and stepped back. Having rejected the male, she left. The remaining Tyranodragon Bergona struggled to get up. Seeing this as an opportunity, I hesitated for a moment, wondering if it was fair to attack a distracted opponent. But then I reminded myself that it was a monster.
I decided to risk using my [Particle Shot: Circular Flying Blade]. The power conduit’s control gate was set to open level T. In this state, I gathered Bosol particles and Heavenly wave energy to launch the Circular Flying Blade. Traveling at seven times the speed of sound, the blade sliced through the air toward the Tyranodragon Bergona. The creature noticed it and swung its forelimb to deflect the blade. As a result, the attack that was supposed to decapitate it only severed one of its arms.
“Ah…”
Realizing I’d failed, I let out an involuntary cry. The Tyranodragon Bergona’s face twisted in pain and anger as it turned its gaze toward me. Roaring, it charged at me with heavy, thunderous steps. Fighting the urge to panic, I steadied myself and launched another Circular Flying Blade. This time, the attack sliced through its waist. However, it wasn’t a fatal blow, and the Tyranodragon Bergona lunged at me, kicking me in the stomach.
“Ugh…”
The particle armor absorbed most of the impact, but the residual force was enough to make me feel as though my internal organs might rupture. Rolling across the ground, I desperately got up, driven by the fear of death.
