World Doomed by Card Games Volume 1 Chapter 15

15 Are All Big Brothers and Sisters in Card Games Weirdos?

Yato-chan’s older sister, who is called “Haku-san” at the shop, is a calm woman.

She exudes an aura of being an older sister, and Yato-chan is quite familiar with her.

She’s even comfortable around Erea.

Well Erea, Haku-san is still a high school student, so she’s younger than you, you know?

Though Erea has a much longer lifespan than normal humans in this world, so from her perspective, it might not seem that strange.

Anyway, unlike Yato-chan who practically lives at the shop, it’s rare for Haku-san to visit.

Aside from her agent work, she’s apparently in the fight club – an extracurricular activity for honing ignition fight skills.

She has household chores and other responsibilities too, but Yato-chan helps out properly with those.

“Welcome, Haku-san.”

“Hello manager, it’s been a while.”

Haku-san, visiting the shop on this rare occasion, greets me.

Wavy long black hair.

A blouse exposing her shoulders and a relaxed long skirt.

Despite being a high school girl, she has a mature onee-sama aura that makes you want to attach an honorific to her name.

“Is Yato doing well?”

“Ah, she should be upstairs playing with Erea right now.”

It seemed like Yato-chan had been accompanying Erea, who has been obsessively playing some new game since yesterday.

Well, it is the afternoon on a weekday, so I can’t really say much.

It turns out Haku-san came to buy some cards and also check on Yato-chan’s condition.

After checking out, with no other customers around, we ended up chatting idly.

“Those two really get along well, don’t they?”

“Well Yato-chan is one thing, but I never expected the reclusive Erea to become that friendly.”

“Oh, I suppose Yato is the same way? Their wavelengths must really match.”

Haku-san says with a laugh,

entwining her fingers in a gesture.

A gentle smile befitting the ideal older sister.

“Haku-san really is…a good older sister, huh.”

“You think so…? I’m really not though.”

She deflects modestly, but I don’t think so.

“Actually, I…”

“…? What’s wrong?”

“Ah, no. It’s nothing.”

I recall Yato-chan has some secret.

Haku-san may be thinking about that, but…it’s not my place to pry.

Anyway.

Come to think of it, this may be the first time I’ve met such a quintessential older sister type.

Because – all the older brothers and sisters in this world are weirdos.

This has been the case since my previous world, but I have a bias that older brothers and sisters in the card game world are bound to be eccentric.

They have totally serious faces but do really weird things.

Or they’re ridiculously overprotective brother/siscons.

The troubling part is they can actually be really cool when being serious.

What’s up with them?

Well, I suppose it’s just a trope in these stories.

There are indeed many bizarrely eccentric older siblings in this world too.

“No, you really are a good older sister. That hot-blooded boy Necca’s older brother, for example, periodically falls to the dark side and attacks Necca.”

“Well…”

The hot-blooded boy Necca has an older brother who is usually taciturn.

He doesn’t have many words but is fundamentally a good caring brother…however, he periodically falls to the dark side.

Doesn’t he fall to the dark side like once every six months? That guy.

And every time, he politely gives a different reason for falling to the darkness.

“…But I’ve fallen to the darkness too, you know?”

“Oh yeah, you did. …Why is that your phone’s home screen wallpaper?”

On Haku-san’s meticulously organized smartphone home screen was a photo of her with dog ears and a suspicious smile.

…Huh?

“See, this is me when I was brainwashed by [Hound]. Ren-san took this photo for me.”

“…If my memory serves, you only saw Ren-san once when you were brainwashed and she lost, right?”

Ren-san took that photo?

Ren san?

…Well, I can see the little girl doing that, I suppose.

“Doesn’t it look just like me?”

“Y-Yeah…”

Is that really the reaction you want?!

The atmosphere suddenly took an ominous turn.

Until now, my impression of Haku-san was of a sincere, kind, ideal older sister type.

Plus, I had heard from Yato-chan about how Haku-san helped her in that crisis during the final battle against “Hound” .

My perception of Haku-san was that of an admirable older sister.

But then my gaze landed on one of the apps on Haku-san’s home screen.

“…Isn’t this that slightly erotic social game Erea was recommending before?”

“!? My apologies. Ufufu…Oh, here’s a photo of Yato.”

“…I see.”

Seeing Haku-san deflect, I ponder.

Putting on a serious face while doing weird stuff. Being a siscon.

From Yato-chan’s perspective, a cool older sister… Meaning, in front of her little sister, she’s serious and cool.

—Yup, she’s just an average older sister of this world!

“…Say, why don’t you go see Yato-chan? Erea’s game session is probably winding down too.”

“If you don’t mind? I’d love to. Fufufu, I wonder what kind of fun they’re having together.”

Deciding to pretend I didn’t see anything, I call out to Haku-san again.

All at once, she is back to her gentle and idealistic sister.

…Well, this is just how it goes!

As I open the door to the back room to guide her in,

There, I saw

“Magical☆YatoBeam! …L-Like this?”

Yato-chan and Erea in strange outfits, saying weird things.

They’re cosplaying, to be precise.

Magical girl looks – Erea in white, Yato-chan in black.

Though if I had to nitpick, the outfits are a bit revealing.

And they look familiar somehow.

What was it…?

“Heh.”

“Ma-manager!? Why are you here?!”

The two turn red with embarrassment as I ponder.

Seems I’ve stumbled onto an awkward scene.

“Um…san?”

“Er…Sorry, Yato.”

And – needless to say, Haku-san is right behind me.

Yato-chan was frozen mid-Beam pose.

With one leg raised, she must be in quite the awkward position.

“…You two look absolutely adorable!”

“That’s your reaction?!”

Yato-chan protests as Haku-san gives an enthusiastic thumbs up, eyes sparkling.

The outburst causes Yato-chan to lower her leg, thankfully.

That reaction implies she doesn’t normally respond that way though.

Though she was probably holding back some harsh comments, the fact that none slipped out means she has great restraint.

I wonder if there’s another reason too.

“By the way Erea, what cosplay is this?”

“It’s from the game [Magical Girl Beam Colosseum] that came out recently – the main character and her partner. I made it myself.”

“Impressive.”

Erea puffs out her chest proudly.

Apparently, during their gaming session, Erea had them try on these cosplay outfits she made.

Speaking of Beam Colosseum, what even is that? I feel like I’ve commented on that before.

Well, there are plenty of other things to comment on, too many to cover.

“Yato…That outfit really suits you…I’m glad you’ve made such a good friend.”

“Wait, sis! I think there’s been a huge misunderstanding!”

“I won’t bother you two any longer. I’ll go make dinner, so don’t be late, ok?”

“Sis! Wait, sis—!”

Having apparently made up her mind, Haku-san bids me farewell and leaves the shop.

Yato’s cries went unheard.

“…Was that the right call?”

“I don’t know…Also manager, leaving the back room door open means our cosplay outfits are visible from outside. It’s embarrassing.”

“Ah, my bad. Well, there aren’t many customers around this time of day.”

With that exchange, I too returned to work.

I wonder if that was the right thing…

Tips: Erea is actually an adult.
