Chapter 3: The Sixth Sense
[Oi, oi! You okay!?]
[Little bro, hurry—use a potion!]
[Ah, r-right…]
A man with pink hair and blue eyes, along with his sister, begin treating Alicia. A gaping hole has been torn in Alicia’s abdomen, bleeding profusely.
The younger brother’s name is Rhine, and his features are strikingly handsome.
In the Free City, there exists an alliance of adventurers known as a Legion—
groups formed to claim hunting grounds, pool resources for business ventures, or protect one another for mutual benefit.
And Rhine happens to be the vice-captain of [Romeo], one of the four largest Legions in the Free City. A renowned adventurer with a fearsome face—somewhat overlapping with Fei’s own intimidating aura—he is nevertheless wildly popular among female adventurers due to his looks and status.
Yet, he finds the attention irritating. He has no interest in romance—his sole focus is protecting his sister, the only family he has left. As the eldest son, as a man, he strives to grow stronger every day for her sake…
In other words, he’s the princely type who’d make girls swoon in an otome game.
Yes, essentially, he’s the male counterpart to Alicia’s heroine role. Under normal circumstances, Rhine and his sister would have rescued Alicia from the Lizardman attack, sparking the beginning of a destined encounter.
His sister’s name is Barbara. Simply put, she’s Rhine’s real sister—not some suspicious woman falsely claiming the title. With her pink hair, blue eyes, gentle features, and an enviable figure that draws men’s gazes downward unconsciously, she’s the epitome of kindness—the type who could never abandon someone in need.
Rhine and Barbara rush to Alicia’s side as she lies bleeding, her abdomen impaled by a Lizardman.
Or so they should have.
Instead, they find a monster that shouldn’t exist on this dungeon floor—far surpassing the strength of any foe meant to appear here. Hearing the Lizardman’s roar, the two hurry toward the scene, praying no rookie adventurers are caught in the fray.
They hope a powerful warrior stands ready to slay the beast. But deep down, they know the odds are slim—Lizardmen are cunning creatures. They don’t pick fights they can’t win.
Yet when they arrive, the sight before them defies all logic.
A rookie girl—terrified, her eyes wide as if staring at something unspeakable—stands frozen. Before her, a Lizardman turns to ashes, disintegrating into nothingness.
And between them, a man, drenched in blood, his right arm swollen black and red—grinning.
((…Huh? Which one’s the monster here…?))
The two glance back and forth between Fei and the Lizardman, unsure. Because right now, Fei looks far more monstrous. Barbara, her voice laced with concern, speaks to the… thing (?) before her.
“Uh… um, are you… okay? You… understand me, right?”
“Too many questions.”
“Ah, good…! Uh, I mean, are you hurt? You’re pretty… messed up. Here, let me—”
Realizing he’s human, Barbara uses a high-grade potion—far more potent than standard ones—on Fei. His demonic, blackened arm reverts to normal, his wounds sealing shut. Now, he’s just a man covered in dried blood.
Awkwardly, Barbara glances between her brother, Fei, and Alicia. Alicia, the would-be protagonist of this side story, stares blankly—too shocked to react. Rhine, the male lead, finds himself slightly entranced by Alicia.
And Fei, grinning fearlessly, looking utterly satisfied.
This should have been the moment Alicia and Rhine meet—the spark of mutual awareness. But thanks to Fei’s interference, the scene has turned surreal.
“So… you two are rookies, right? Ah, I should introduce myself—I’m Barbara. This is my little brother, Rhine.”

“I see.”
“…Ah. That reaction means… you’re new here, huh? What’s your name? No pressure if you don’t wanna answer.”
“…Fei.”
“Got it. Fei, huh? Nice to meet you. The potion healed your wounds, but you’re still covered in blood, so be careful, okay? You should head back for today. We can escort you—”
“…Unnecessary. I’ll return on my own.”
“O-oh… okay.”
((This guy’s… hard to read. But he was grinning while drenched in blood… What a weirdo.))
As Fei turns to leave, Barbara glances at her brother. Normally, Rhine would snap at anyone disrespectful or cold toward her—yet now, he’s silent.
“ …… ”
“ …… ”
((Huh…? Could it be… Has Rhine finally found love?))
His eyes remain locked on Alicia—unable to look away from her beauty. In another world, this would have been the perfect otome game first encounter—
two flawless leads, gazing at each other, fate beginning to weave its threads.
But thanks to that damn Fei, the moment is ruined.
((Wait… This girl… She’s not actually looking at Rhine, is she? Her eyes are totally blank… Is she okay?))
As Barbara puzzles over this, Fei mutters without turning around.
“The potion… I owe you one. I’ll repay it eventually.”
“Don’t worry about it! Adventurers help each other out.”
“…Is that how it works here? I’m not familiar. I’ll remember that.”
With those words, he strides away coolly, Alicia stumbling after him. Barbara can’t shake her worry.
((Fei, huh…? Kinda similar to Rhine in vibe—reckless, gets hurt a lot… Wait, are they rookies? They’re gonna be trouble…))
“Hey, you two! This city’s dangerous at night—get to an inn before it gets too late!”
She shouts after them, but neither reacts. Still, something tells her Fei heard.
“I hope they’ll be alright… They seem totally lost here. Ugh, Rhine! Stop spacing out!”
“Huh? Oh… right. Sorry. Got distracted.”
“I get she’s cute, but if you stare too hard, she’ll think you’re a creep.”
“Wh—! I wasn’t—!”
“Sure, sure~”
“Hey, Barbara, don’t mock—”
Bickering affectionately, the siblings head for the dungeon exit.
Deep, deep night. The city is pitch black, save for the raucous laughter of adventurers drinking until dawn.
“Bwahaha!!”
“I’m done… Ughhh…”
“Ew, he puked!!”
“Hahahaha!!”
They laugh, drink, and revel in merriment. Alcohol seeps into weary bodies—it feels endless until suddenly, it isn’t.
Again and again, they push their limits. Such is the nature of revelry—a remedy, a comfort for adventurers.
But no one can drink forever.
“I’m done… Seriously, I’m heading back.”
“Huh?! Already?”
“Yeah… Gotta hit the dungeon tomorrow.”
“Take care, man.”
“See ya tomorrow!”
With those words, one man staggers away from the lively tavern.
The air feels colder suddenly. Sure, it’s winter—but this chill is different. Like something freezing his soul. He dismisses it as drunken paranoia and walks on.
Just a little farther to the inn… Just a little more, and he can sleep. But then—
“…Huh?”
Something—someone—stands in his path. Tall. Too tall. Like a scarecrow from hell, grinning, waving cheerfully.
His drunken vision blurs the details—but it’s a man, roughly two meters tall, with oddly narrow shoulders.
A hallucination. At this hour, in this place, there’s no way a giant would be waving at him.
He tries to walk past. But the closer he gets, the soberer he becomes.
The stench of blood—that iron reek he knows from dungeon battles—fills his nose.
His vision clears. He’s real. A towering man stands there. And in his hand—
A severed human arm. Dripping fresh blood.
“Eek…”
A childish whimper escapes him. Whose arm is that? His mind is fully awake now.
But his body—won’t move.
“…Eh?”
Then he sees it. His own arm—missing from the elbow down. That arm in the giant’s grip—
“A-AHHHH—!!”
He screams for help. The Free City is full of adventurers—someone must hear him.
“S-SOMEONE HELP MEEEEE—!!!!”
But no one comes. As if he’s been cut off from the world.
“Soundproof barrier, see? No one’s coming. No one can hear you! Bummer!”
The man’s voice is playful, almost childlike. Then—
Slice. His legs and remaining arm are severed. Blood gushes. He screams, over and over, but it’s useless. The man laughs, then—
Stabs a dagger through his throat. And only now does the dying man realize the true horror. Amidst the terror, it hits him—
He feels no pain.
“Ahh, seeing people at the moment of death really is the best… I’m a kind person, so I make sure they don’t feel any pain when I kill them. You’re lucky, you know. Normally, I’d play with you a lot more before killing you, but I’m in a good mood today from drinking, so I’ll make it quick. You must be scared to die, but it doesn’t matter when you die—you’ll end up dead either way. I know this hobby of mine isn’t exactly ‘good,’ so at least I don’t let them feel pain. When I kill women, I tear off their limbs first, rape them, then finish them off. Or sometimes I just rape them normally before killing them. Who knows?”
There was no pain. Strangely, even the metallic scent of blood that had been there moments ago was gone. All sensation had vanished—only hearing remained, faintly functional.
