Fantasy Galaxy Volume 1 Chapter 2 part 7

“No, threat levels 9 and above are rare, said to only be encountered in special areas. Beings like us have no connection to them,”

The Armored Artillery Anemone was a monster so massive that it was evident even from a distance. Its armor, resembling the shell of a giant turtle, had numerous artillery openings, large and small. From these openings, artillery tentacles extended, aiming at enemies. These artillery tentacles moved like the tentacles of a sea anemone, wriggling and twisting, and fired plasma shells.

During the battle with the Orc Fleet, several dozen artillery tentacles emerged from the armored shell, wriggling and extending as they began to attack the Orc Fleet. The plasma shells fired by the Armored Artillery Anemone glowed orange, and the sight of them flying toward the Orc Fleet was both terrifying and beautiful. They flew like a meteor shower, crashing into the Orc Fleet and launching a fierce assault. Some ships were hit by the plasma shells, causing explosions. Though no sound was heard in the vacuum of space, the sight of explosions and holes opening up in the ships’ hulls was chilling. The destructive power was so immense it gave a sense of cold dread. The Orc fleet fought back desperately. Cruisers and space artillery ships fired their main charged particle cannons at the Armored Artillery Anemone. Most of the shots bounced off its armored shell, but a few managed to hit and destroy some of the writhing artillery tentacles. Unfortunately, the Orc fleet’s main force consisted of space artillery ships, which were unable to deliver a decisive blow to the Armored Artillery Anemone.

The Orc fleet was overwhelmingly outmatched. Realizing the futility of continuing the fight, they abandoned their counterattack and focused entirely on escaping. Finally, they managed to break free from the influence of the star’s gravitational field. Each ship in the Orc fleet activated its spacetime jump field generator, creating a spacetime jump field, and then leaped into it. Watching the Orc fleet vanish into the spacetime jump, the Armored Artillery Anemone generated its own massive spacetime jump field and followed them into the void.

“Now! Jump into that field!” Sario urged.

I accelerated my small spacecraft. The giant warp field was shrinking. Going from Warp 3 to Warp 4 speed, then Warp 5, would I make it? I had to! I pushed my craft to its limits as the field shrank rapidly.

“Faster, faster!” Sario’s voice came over the comm, sounding anxious too.

Just before the warp field vanished, my ship jumped in. In that instant, a weird twisting sensation distorted space, making me feel sick. My head swam, unable to think clearly. I staggered back to the cockpit.

“I feel sick, why?”

I asked Sario.

“You succeeded in transitioning to space-time warp space. This state is warp space. You’ll get used to it with experience. More importantly, engage the Luon Drive,”

Another twisting sensation hit my gut. Looking at the outward monitor showed only blackness, as human vision and cameras cannot perceive warp space. However, with my awakened Bosol Sense from the combat room, I could see sparkles like stars flickering in the dark void.

After two days, I grew more accustomed to it. With Goblin ships, I had never experienced transitioning to warp space, as I was forcibly put to sleep during that process.

“By the way, which star are we heading to?”

“Serizoel Star, about three to four light years from Gorgona Star,” Sario replied.

“Even at light speed, that’s over three and a half years. Far away.”

“Moving through warp space, we’ll arrive at Serizoel in two days. But that’s when the long part begins,” he said.

When returning from the faster-than-light travel of subspace to normal space, most interstellar governments have laws requiring ships to re-enter normal space in areas far from inhabited planets. Violating this law results in hefty fines, so ships typically return to normal space at the outer edges of a star system. From there, it takes a considerable amount of time to travel through normal space to reach the planet.

About two days after getting accustomed to subspace travel, Sario began operating the Luon Drive.

“We’re returning to normal space soon, take your seat,”

“Okay.”

I sat in the cockpit chair. After Sario’s operations, the small craft shuddered as we transitioned back to normal space.

Checking a readout, Sario looked relieved.

“No mistake, this is Serizoel Star.”

According to Sario, the dominant lifeform on this planet resembles dwarves – short beings with barrel-like physiques and bearded males.

“From Goblins to Dwarves, the universe is something,”

I muttered then Sario cocked his head.

“Eh? What about the Dwarves?”

“Nothing,” I replied.

“Setting our course for Serizoel’s fourth planet,” he said, inputting coordinates into the navigation system.

With a blast from the thrusters, our craft sharply adjusted its trajectory. After minor course corrections locked in our heading, it was my turn. Moving to the combat room, I opened the power conduit gate to Release Level 1, absorbing Bosol particles and Heavenly wave to accelerate the ship using that power. Once at cruising velocity, I returned to the cockpit.

“Still, your Heavenly wave Drive is amazing. Even a top mage couldn’t do that, could they?”

The drive method taught by the Celestial Zolfienne was incredibly efficient, minimizing energy loss to convert most of the Heavenly wave into propulsive power. Ordinary mages using Heavenly wave Drives could only convert a tenth of the absorbed force.

“Come to think of it, you never told me why you chose Serizoel as our destination,”

“To sell the equipment we recovered on Gorgona and raise funds,”

I touched the back of my neck.

“Before that funding effort, can’t we remove this thing?”

“We need krebits for anything. Raising funds is the top priority,”

krebits are the monetary unit used by the Space Alliance. From what I’ve heard, they have purchasing power similar to the Japanese yen, though I can’t yet judge if that’s accurate. Can’t be helped. If I don’t have funds, it seems I can’t even remove the terminals. I’ll launch the small spacecraft towards the fourth planet. Here, I’ll also use my Heavenly wave abilities to accelerate it.

It took the small spacecraft four days to reach near the fourth planet, Joel, after returning to normal space at the outskirts of the Serizoel star system. Around planet Joel were several space stations, and the small spacecraft was allowed to dock at one of them. Since Sario was originally a citizen of the Space Alliance, his genetic data and iris pattern for personal identification should still be recorded on his homeworld planet. By cross-referencing that personal ID data with Sario’s genetic information, they can verify his citizenship and reissue an ID card. Sario alone entered the space station and applied for a reissued ID card. Many citizens of the Space Alliance possess their ID as a card, although the option exists to have it implanted in the body – but many dislike that method.

It took three days to reissue Sario’s ID card, as cross-checking the personal identification data took time. Once Sario had the ID card, he registered with the Dragon Hunter Guild to become a dragon hunter. This is an organization like an adventurer’s guild, apparently with a system to buy various materials and items. Sario registered with the Dragon Hunter Guild to sell them equipment. He could have sold to other corporations, but amateur dealings risk getting ripped off, so the Dragon Hunter Guild is more trustworthy.

We exchanged the high-charged particle cannon for 45 million krebits in funds. Enough for the two of us to live comfortably for years, but operating a small spacecraft is expensive. 45 million krebits would run out quickly. In fact, just docking the small spacecraft at the space station costs around 50,000 krebits per day. If not for the option to pay later, we couldn’t have docked at all.

Sario connected to the planetary information network of Joel via the space station’s communications system – a more advanced information network than Earth’s internet. We were searching for a rental medical machine capable of removing the disciplinary terminals at the back of our necks. At this level of civilization, there are apparently rental medical services that loan out such machines to docked spacecraft – but the rental fees are high. The search showed a daily rental of around 1.5 million krebits. Still necessary, so Sario submitted a rental request.

The next day, a medical machine was delivered to the small spacecraft. Maintenance robots received it and installed the capsule-like medical machine in the multi-purpose space. Seeing it made me worry if it was really safe.

“There’s no chance it could actually explode, right?”
