Chapter 3: Little Sister
The academy is, frankly, a troublesome little garden. Japanese schools are somewhat more relaxed, but when it comes to a place where you learn magic in another world, it is a different story.
The Magic Knight Training Academy. Commonly known as the Magic Academy.
A Magic Knight is someone who has learned both magic and swordsmanship. It’s customary to be employed by the country as a Magic Knight after graduating from the academy.
“Do-do-do, do-do-do.”
Humming to myself, I gazed out the window. Since we were in a carriage, the scenery outside was constantly changing. Today was clear. I repeat, today was clear.
“You seem quite relaxed, Big Brother.”
A crisp voice came from in front of me. Turning my gaze forward, I saw a beautiful girl with the same golden hair and blue eyes as mine, glaring at me sharply. Hmm, it seems I’ve managed to anger my little sister.
Little Sister, also known as Ilza Lagler.
Her twin tails and her strong resemblance to me are her defining features. We’re the same age, but we’re not twins. If I was born in April, she was born in March, something like that. It’s clear that our parents worked really hard to have her.

“Big Brother, who has zero magical power, needs to achieve top grades in swordsmanship and academics to pass the entrance exam. Do you even realize that?”
“Ah, well, it’s precisely because I have zero magical power that I’m so detached. You know? The higher the chance of failing, the more relaxed I feel.”
“Don’t you think you’re lacking in awareness as the eldest son of the prestigious Lagler family? Our older sister passed as the top student, you know.”
“Really? Big Sister was the top? That means Little Sister can’t afford to lose either.”
“Of course, I’ll naturally take the top spot. Maybe you should try a little harder too?”
“You sound like some villainess. Weren’t you crying yesterday and asking me to accompany you to the bathroom?”
“Th-that’s different! It was just a one-time thing!!”
“Apparently, the academy has dormitory life. Since the dorms are separated by gender, I won’t be able to accompany you to the bathroom, right?”
“……If I’m in the same room as Big Sister…”
“But the dorms are different for each grade, right?”
“Then, Big Brother can just sneak into my room!”
“I could, but I’d rather not.”
“……Do something about it! You’re my big brother, aren’t you?”
“Hmm. Well, in case of emergencies, I guess.”
“……Right. In case of emergencies, I’ll just stop drinking water before bed.”
“If I fail, it’s over. Both for me and your underwear.”
“How about we cheat to raise your scores? You can sit next to me during the exam.”
“You’re a disgrace to our family.”
“I’m worried about whether you’ll pass or not! It’s a good thing! You absolutely have to pass!”
I never thought I’d be pressured to pass because of my sister’s bathroom issues. As the leader of the organization, adding this role to my responsibilities makes things even more troublesome.
My sister Ilza says I’m carefree, but deep down, I’m actually quite anxious.
There’s one reason: if I fail here as the leader of the organization, I’ll lose the trust of the people. After all the hype about being the God’s Proxy, failing the academy entrance exam would be no laughing matter.
Ugh, and if I use magic, crows suddenly appear and start singing a dark, creepy BGM, so I can’t even do that. That’s why I’m forced to pass under these severe restrictions.
Even if I do get in, there’s that strange organization that believes in urban legends like the “Heavenly Realm,” so I’ll have to find their spies. Plus, members of the Revolutionary Army are also in the academy, so there’s no place to relax.
Th-this is hell (self-inflicted).

“Wh-what was that!?”
A sudden loud noise echoed from the carriage, and at the same time, the carriage came to a halt. What’s going on? Startled, I looked outside to see a group of bandits surrounding us. Huh, the classic fantasy world bandits, huh.
They must have targeted the noble’s carriage.
“Ilza Lagler. Come out.”
“Me…?”
“Looks like you’re being called. Do you know them?”
“Of course not!”
I don’t know why they’re targeting my sister, but it’s clear they’ve come in full force. The number of enemies… ten, twenty, no thirty. Seriously, there are a lot of them. Did she do something?
“Did you do something? Getting targeted on this scale is no joke.”
“I-I don’t know!”
“……I see.”
Well then, what should I do? I could take them all out, but in our family, I’m supposed to be the underachiever. If I suddenly show my strength, it’ll just cause more trouble. I’ve been hiding my power because inheriting the family headship is a hassle.
And if I use magic, the dark creepy BGM will start playing.
“Capture Ilza Lagler. Kill the brother.”
Ah, so I’m getting killed. What should I do? I don’t want to die. I plan to retire as the leader and quit being the God’s Proxy to live a slow life in another world. Besides, I’ve already died once, hit by a truck.
I can’t just throw away this second chance at life.
Well, I guess I have no choice. Here goes…
“Ah! Lord Frieza!!”
“Eh!? What!? Wait, who’s that!?”
I pointed at a random big tree outside. Instantly, my sister leaned out the window, looking around frantically. In that moment, I teleported and disappeared.
The next moment, black feathers fell from the sky.
My big brother is a mysterious person. He always seems detached, as if he’s observing life from a distance.
Despite being the biggest underachiever. He doesn’t possess any magical power.
It’s said that having magical power is the minimum requirement for being a noble. Both our father and mother possess magical power and are excellent Magic Knights.
Big Sister and I have inherited that magical power in abundance. It’s even rumored that Big Sister has already surpassed our parents.
In such an outstanding family, Big Brother has no magical power. Yet, he’s strangely confident. The only thing he excels at is accompanying me to the bathroom at night if I’m scared. But despite that, he’s oddly captivating.
──That one thing, when you look into his eyes, you feel as if you’re being watched from a great height.
Today is no different. While I’m extremely nervous about the entrance exam, Big Brother is calmly looking up at the sky. He looks like a bird with wings that could take him anywhere, yet he’s content to stay in this little garden.

Before I knew it, there were many people around us who seemed to be bandits. Even in such a situation, Big Brother remains calm.
For bandits, their magical power is unusually high. These aren’t ordinary people…… Moreover, they clearly give off the aura of strong individuals. The majority are men, but there are a few women as well, and it’s obvious that they’re all exceptionally strong.
“Ah! Lord Frieza!!”
“Eh!? What!? Wait, who’s that!?”
This brother of mine says the most random things, and then……
[Loo-loo. Lululululoo-loo-loo. Dedenden-den, dedenden-deden]
Suddenly, my consciousness shifted. It felt like I had been doused with cold water, and my spirit shrank back. Crows were flying in the sky, shrieking and dropping black feathers.
“Could it be…… the Proxy!?”
One of the bandits muttered something…… 【Proxy】 ? What is that……
──Truly, I was witnessing a moment that shattered the values of my life.
An abnormal amount of magical power, the output of that rising magical energy, and above all, the contradictory nature of it—both wild and refined at the same time.
The black feathers falling, it was as if they were heralding the descent of a jet-black angel. The priest’s robe, the mask, the golden hair.
And most of all, the amount of magical power. A divine presence.
“Oh my, it seems you know of me.”
“Damn it, did he know about our attack!?”
“It seems we weren’t the first to sense the 【Chosen One】 …… Let’s kill him here and make it our offering.”
“My, my, what a rough bunch. I’m just a humble clergyman here to spread the word. I’m not fond of violence.”
There’s no way he’s not fond of violence. What is that overwhelming presence of magical power…… That’s dangerous, we should run. There’s no way they can win. No way at all!!
Why don’t those bandits understand that?
“……All of you, attack at once!!”
The enemies simultaneously raised their magical power, and magic was unleashed from a distance. But the outcome was already clear.
“Damn it! A monster!”
