Fantasy Galaxy Volume 1 Chapter 2 part 6

While Zen and the others were investigating the destroyed space colony, a space battle had begun between the Orc and Goblin forces near the fourth planet. Amid the fighting, the second-class scout ship Gyogal was observing the intense battle. As a scout ship, Gyogal was not participating in the combat but instead using its superior radar to provide reconnaissance information to the allied fleet.

Walking down the corridor of the scout ship Gyogal was Valbo, with an unhappy expression on his face. After reporting the complete annihilation of the scouting team including Zen, Valbo had been demoted and was doing menial tasks befitting an ensign.

“Captain, I’ve brought you your meal,”

Valbo said, placing a preserved food tube (extra-spicy flavor) in front of Captain Boblo.

“Hmph, you remembered my preference, it seems,”

“Of course, sir.”

Valbo felt miserable. At that moment, a Goblin radar operator shouted loudly.

“Captain Boblo, the radar has detected an enormous object!”

“Reinforcements from the Orcs?”

“It doesn’t seem so.”

“Don’t tell me, it’s a giant monster?”

“It’s a creature about six jiras and three kilometers long.”

Captain Boblo immediately contacted the flagship Gultura, where the fleet command was located. The giant monster Captain Boblo reported was approaching on a trajectory toward the fourth planet. The discovery caused a great commotion not only among the Goblin forces but also in the Orc fleet, with a flurry of communications exchanged.

“Captain Boblo. That monster is the Armored Artillery anemone, threat level 8.”

The Armored Artillery anemone was an enormous monster that could grow over three kilometers long. Its entire body was covered in armor like a tortoise shell that deflected attacks from all weapons possessed by the Orcs and Goblins, while artillery tentacles extending from gaps in the shell fired plasma bolts. This Armored Artillery anemone was like a battleship monster. The Orc fleet decided to retreat first. As many of their ships fled to the far side of the star, the Armored Artillery anemone, with its habit of chasing fleeing prey, began pursuing the Orc fleet. The relieved Goblin forces had thought they were safe, but then the second-class scout ship Gyogal received orders to “monitor the movements of the Armored Artillery anemone.” With a disgruntled look, Captain Boblo commanded them to follow the Armored Artillery anemone.

“Zen, this is bad. The Orc Fleet is getting closer!”

Hearing Sario’s words, I looked at the radar monitor. It clearly showed numerous ships and a massive presence approaching.

“What’s that big one in the back?”

“That’s probably a giant monster. This could be our chance.”

“What do you mean?”

“If the Orc Fleet retreats into trans-spacetime, the giant monster might trigger the trans-spacetime jump field… If that happens, we could slip through and possibly reach a nearby star.”

I nodded.

“Are you sure we can leave the radar on without being noticed?”

“The Orc Fleet is constantly emitting radar waves. They’ll be lost in the noise. Even if they notice, they won’t be able to investigate in this situation.”

“I see. But why hasn’t the Orc Fleet retreated into trans-spacetime yet?”

“It’s dangerous to jump into trans-spacetime near a star’s gravitational field. They’ll probably wait until they’re a bit further from the star to generate the jump field.”

“Got it.”

“We don’t have time to just stare. We need to launch the small spacecraft now!”

I headed to the combat room and began flying the small spacecraft, taking a course that would let us circle around the Orc Fleet and get behind the giant monster. I used the Heavenly wave Drive to accelerate the small spacecraft. The Orc Fleet likely noticed us, but it seemed they didn’t have the luxury of dealing with us. As we got closer to the giant monster, I felt a tremor of fear. Its massive, turtle-like body, over three kilometers long, had numerous tentacle-like appendages sticking out, writhing and moving in a disturbing manner. However, it showed no interest in our small spacecraft, which was a relief.

But as the small spacecraft circled behind the monster, a problem arose. A reconnaissance ship, Gyogal, was flying nearby. Its presence made my fear of the giant monster somewhat fade.

“It’s the Gyogal reconnaissance ship. What’s it doing?”

“It’s probably monitoring the movements of the Orc Fleet and the giant monster. This is bad; it looks like the Gyogal is preparing to attack!”

The Gyogal fired its laser cannons. Sario quickly used the propulsion system to change the small spacecraft’s trajectory.

“Zen, counterattack!”

I heard Sario’s scream-like voice from the speaker. Hearing it, I was reminded of the last moments of Berta, Riet, and Dimas.

“I’ll show them.”

I sat back down in the combat room and focused on the Gyogal. Inside, I knew the commander of the reconnaissance team, Valbo, was there. That one I couldn’t forgive. I opened the power conduit control gate at Release Level T and absorbed both Bosol Particles and Heavenly wave. I really wanted to use Release Level 1, but I could only control the Heavenly wave up to Release Level T at the moment. The Heavenly wave Drive was an exception because it had the acceleration field circuit.

The distance to the Gyogal was about forty kilometers. At this range, hitting with a particle shot would be difficult. I formed the particle shot with Bosol Particles and fired it towards the Gyogal using Heavenly wave. The particle shot flew with a faint yellow light, passing more than 100 meters away from the Gyogal. In response, the Gyogal fired a laser, narrowly missing the side of our small spacecraft. If that laser had hit, both Sario and I would’ve been dead. Fear surged within me, but thinking of Berta and the others, I suppressed the fear with rage and focused on the fight.

“Take aim carefully,”

Sario’s voice rang out. Even with his words, the distance was too great. Again, the reconnaissance ship Gyogal attacked with laser cannon fire. The laser beam passed very close by me. Though the laser was invisible to the eyes, ever since I received the [Higher-Dimensional Access] from Zolfienne, I could sense the existence of high energy. I fired particle beams one after another, attacking the reconnaissance ship Gyogal. It returned fire, but seemed to miss due to poor aiming systems. Seemingly irritated, the Gyogal started approaching.

“Sario, if we get into a full-blown battle here, won’t it draw the attention of the giant monsters?”

I asked him about my concern.

“No, it seems the Orc fleet and the giant monsters will start fighting soon. It should be fine,” he replied.

Hearing that, I stared intently at the reconnaissance ship Gyogal as its laser cannon attacks continued. However, my small spacecraft was making small orbit adjustments, so the beams missed. I extended my right arm, shaped my hand like a finger gun, carefully aimed at Gyogal, and fired a particle beam. It missed again. Then, Gyogal launched a high-speed missile.

This was bad. I waited for the high-speed missile to approach, drew it in, and fired a particle beam toward it. Luckily, my beam hit, and the missile exploded. Captain Voblo, having his expensive high-speed missile shot down, seemed furious. He probably intended to approach and finish me off with the laser cannon. As the Gyogal neared, I took a deep breath while staring it down.

The thought of avenging Berta and the others swelled up inside me. At that moment, my anger toward the Goblins surpassed any fear. That anger heightened my mental state and concentration. Gyogal’s form became clearer, and I took aim and fired the particle beam. Still, the distance meant I needed luck to hit. Fortunately, luck was on my side – the beam struck near Gyogal’s stern. It was a particle beam fired at Release Level T force, so the explosive power was limited. The blast just dented part of the engine, disabling it, causing Gyogal to decelerate.

“Sario, can I slow down the speed?”

“No, please keep up with the giant monster,”

“Damn it,”

I muttered, glaring at the distancing Gyogal in resignation.

After Gyogal fell behind, the battle between the giant monster and the Orc fleet began. Watching it, Sario said he figured out the monster’s true identity.

“This is an Armored Artillery Anemone, threat level 8,” he declared.

“What does threat level 8 mean?” I asked.

“It’s an indicator of a monster’s danger level,” Sario explained.

[Threat Level 1] The weakest monsters, which even amateurs with weapons can defeat.

[Threat Level 2] Requires trained soldiers or dragon hunters to defeat.

[Threat Level 3] Has the combat strength of a patrol boat class.

[Threat Level 4] Has the combat strength of a fighter jet class.

[Threat Level 5] Has the combat strength of a frigate class.

[Threat Level 6] Has the combat strength of a destroyer class.

[Threat Level 7] Has the combat strength of a cruiser class, able to destroy small moons.

[Threat Level 8] Has the combat strength of a battleship class, able to destroy planets.

“There are no higher threat levels?”

I asked.
