Revenge of the Soul Eater Volume 3 chapter 5 part 4

“We should have killed that Elf with the first strike too. She should be grateful to be alive. The same goes for the beastmen and mages who interfered with my sister!”

“I see, so you have no intention of apologizing.”

I calmly absorbed the hostility in his response. Kilmt narrowed his eyes suspiciously, but I ignored him and turned to Kuraia. Meeting my gaze, Kuraia slowly opened her mouth.

“I do feel sorry for hurting those who aren’t Oni-people. However, I don’t think our actions against the Oni-people were wrong. As Kilmt said, and as you know, Sora-dono, for users of the Illusory One Sword Style, exterminating Oni and sealing phantoms is an iron rule.”

“So you have no intention of apologizing either.”

There was no need to ask Goz; I had already heard his stance through the receptionist. Someone who had said he wouldn’t hesitate to become a criminal to defeat Oni-people wouldn’t bow his head to them now.

This concluded my first question.

“Now for my second question. As Kilmt just mentioned, it seems there are facts about the Oni-people that I don’t know. Are you willing to explain? What did he mean by a Mythical Species manifesting next to me?”

I could make some guesses based on Kilmt’s words. Perhaps there was a risk of Oni-gods manifesting using Oni-people’s bodies as vessels, or something along those lines.

But if Suzume could do such a thing, she would have used that power when attacked by the Basilisk.

This wasn’t limited to Suzume. In the past three hundred years, the Oni-people have been driven to the brink of extinction by humans, but as far as I know, there’s only been one instance of an Oni-god manifesting three hundred years ago.

If the duty of the Illusory One Sword Style is to kill all Oni-people for a possibility that occurs once every few hundred years, if at all, that’s reaching the level of fanaticism.

Or perhaps there have actually been several instances of Oni-gods manifesting, all of which were secretly erased by the Mitsurugi family or the Adastella Empire.

In response to these doubts, Goz replied with a frustrated look:

“Sora-dono. That is a secret of the Mitsurugi family, and I cannot disclose it on my own discretion. If you return and master the Illusory One Sword Style, reaching the Demon Gate, Lord himself will explain it to you.”

“I see. So it’s like this? You tried to kill innocent people following the Mitsurugi family’s rules. You won’t apologize because you were following rules. You can’t disclose the reason for the attack because of the rules. If I want to know more, I should submit to the Mitsurugi family, right?”

After summarizing their claims concisely, I snorted.

“From start to finish, it’s all about your convenience. It’s refreshingly arrogant. If that’s your stance, I’ll act according to my own convenience as well.”

Saying this, I readied Soul Eater and silently raised my fighting spirit.

Sensing hostility in my actions, Goz, Kilmt, and Kuraia each took their stances, facing me.

Then, Kilmt stepped forward from the three and moved to my front. Glaring at me with fierce eyes, he spat out:

“Sora, let me teach you something, you who’re getting carried away after defeating your first Mythical Species. In the Demon Gate, there are countless monsters that rival Mythical Species. That’s where we fight. You, who’s getting high on swinging your soul blade against weaklings, can’t even imagine it. The saying ‘ignorance is a sin’ applies perfectly to you right now, both about the Oni-people and this.”

It seemed Kilmt had his own pent-up frustrations, as criticism towards me poured from his pale lips like a broken dam.

The deep crimson long sword in Kilmt’s hand burst into flames with a sound, responding to its wielder’s fighting spirit. The intense heat that seemed capable of scorching even the air reached me.

Given Kilmt’s personality, I expected him to strike immediately, but he didn’t. Perhaps the memory of his defeat in Ishka was still fresh. As evidence, Kilmt’s gaze was fixed on my black sword.

If he clashed head-on with Soul Eater, even the flames of Kurikara would be extinguished. It was natural for Kilmt to be cautious.

Looking at Kilmt, I thought:

Probably, my classmate before me was aiming for revenge for Ishka, getting fired up. Back then, I had subdued Kilmt with a surprise attack. From Kilmt’s perspective, he likely felt he hadn’t lost in terms of skill, and that thought was fueling his current fighting spirit.

—That figure looked extremely ridiculous.

As a Blue Forest Flag Bearer, he should be able to discern the difference between me now and four days ago. They say, “After three days, look at him anew.”

It’s because he underestimates his opponent that his observational skills are clouded. Looking at Kilmt, who thought he was standing on the same stage as me, the corners of my lips naturally curled up. Noticing this, Kilmt sharply raised his voice.

“What’s so funny!?”

“No, it’s nothing. I just thought what you said made sense. Ignorance is a sin. That’s true. It’s a shame the speaker doesn’t realize their own ignorance.”

“Ha! Someone who knows neither the demon gate nor the demon people dares to spout nonsense! If there’s something you know that I don’t, then say it, Sora!”

“Alright, I’ll tell you. What I know and you don’t is… the difference in our abilities, Klimt! Oooooooohhh!!”

Intending to teach Klimt reality, I let out a roar and began to raise my Od.

I raised it higher and higher, higher and higher, and even higher—watching Klimt’s face contort in shock, I raised my Od even further.

While watching Kuraia turn pale with fear and Goz stand dumbfounded, I continued to raise my Od relentlessly.

I still continue. There’s still more to go. Towards the limit that lies beyond, I tirelessly raise my Od.

Raise, raise, raise, raise, raise, raise, raise, raise, raise, raise, raise, raise, raise, raise, raise, raise, raise, raise, raise, raise————

Suddenly, a whip-like sound echoed around. Looking down, I saw the ground beneath my feet cracking significantly. The cracks didn’t stop there. With repeated cracking sounds, the ground continued to split and break apart.

Immediately after, the earth caved in with a thunderous roar. As if unable to bear my existence, the ground sank in a circular shape around me.

Before I knew it, dust was swirling violently despite the lack of wind.

The swirling dust, roaring like a tornado, picked up debris from the cracked ground and grew enormous in the blink of an eye. The color of the tornado, containing the red soil of Tittis, was red.

Although different in scale, it was a sight reminiscent of the scarlet tornado created by the Mythical species.
