Geek Mob Mercenary (LIGHT NOVEL VERSION) Volume 4 Chapter 91

Mob No. 91 “Welcome. …Oh, it’s you. Looks like you didn’t run into the enemy fleet of that shady chancellor from the neighboring country.”

Gerhilde was happy that Rossweisse had found a partner in Lambert.

She even declared that she would find one for herself, and she actually did—bringing them to this battlefield.

Lambert had grown a lot too—he no longer fainted and had become significantly stronger in combat.

She also mentioned that the reason Rossweisse didn’t have her own avatar was simply due to budget constraints.

Aside from the complaints, most of what Rossweisse said was actually useful. But thanks to that, I lost four hours of sleep. Refueling and maintenance of my machine, along with taking a bath and shopping for food, took another two hours, leaving me with only six hours to rest.

Still, that was better than not sleeping at all, so as soon as Rosweisse ended the call, I immediately went to sleep.

By the time I woke up, it was almost time to leave the colony.

Since moving around right after waking up is risky, and I wanted to avoid the usual crowds, I waited until everyone else had left before finally departing last. From there, I started my journey back to Ytts.

Because of the gate system, the return trip took more than twice as long as the way there.

I spent a full two days traveling, finally arriving at the Mercenary Guild on Planet Ytts in the afternoon of the third day.

I wanted to go straight home, but I had to pay back Old Man Roans, so I headed to the guild’s reception counter.

Inside the guild lobby, Lambert from [Feathered Helmet] and Arthur, who had just been promoted to knight rank due to this mission, were being celebrated by the entire guild.

Even though they were mercenaries, they had fought hard while guarding the empress, earning them great recognition.

Of course, they weren’t the only ones who performed well—Rosweisse, Miss Seira, the Miss Tiursad the Pantheress, and many others also played important roles. But this time, the spotlight was on Lambert and Arthur.

Avoiding the commotion, I made my way to Old Man Roans’ counter.

“I’m back.”

“Glad you didn’t run off without paying your debt.”

We exchanged smiles and bumped fists.

“Your payment is already processed. Every mercenary gets a flat 5 million credits.”

“That’s fast—and generous. I expected them to be stingy and make us fight for it.”

Previously, during the terrorist suppression on Planet Teura, Count Ikorai had paid quickly.

But considering how many corrupt nobles were in the military and government, I had fully expected them to haggle over the price or delay payments.

“It’s all thanks to Her Majesty’s decision.”

“That’s a relief.”

Even if it was just a political move to boost her popularity, this kind of consideration was exactly why the current empress had such high approval ratings.

Thinking about that, I took 300,000 credits in cash and the rest in digital data money. From the cash, I handed 100,000 credits to Old Man Roans.

“Here. That’s for the map.”

“Much appreciated! Now I can buy my daughter that sportswear she wanted.”

He stashed the cash into his pocket with a pleased look

“So, did the map help?”

he asked me.

“It was useful, but I didn’t end up needing it.”

“Ah, well. Sorry you wasted your money.”

He said that, but he didn’t look sorry at all—if anything, he seemed happy.

Looking back toward the crowd, he casually added,

“Oh, right. Lambert, Arthur, and Miss Tiursad have been invited to an appreciation banquet hosted by Her Majesty. Though it’ll probably be held much later.”

“Ugh, that sounds like a hassle.”

That was definitely the kind of news that would make Rosweisse and Miss Seira furious.

“So, what’s your plan now?”

“I’d love to go home and sleep right away, but I have one more stop to make. After that, I’ll take a break for a while.”

After finishing my business with Old Man Roans, I ignored the noisy guild and left.

First, I went to the bank and transferred a third of my earnings—1.7 million credits—to my parents. Technically, it was supposed to be 1,666,666… credits, but I rounded it up to 1.7 million to keep it simple.

The city was filled with cheers. With the rebel army defeated, martial law had been lifted, and the corrupt nobles were being arrested in droves. Displays and posters praising the empress were everywhere.

Even the black-market shopping district was no exception, though their slogans were a bit… eccentric:
“Praise the Holy Empress Who Holds the Deep Sea’s Treasures!”
“To the Bloodstained Princess Who Upholds Justice, We Offer Our Bloodline!”
and so on

Even the local butcher was running a special event called “A Feast to Commemorate the Judgment of Fools” and was selling two types of meat:
1. “Descendant of the Winged Dragon That Crawled on the Earth, Fallen into Oil and Mud – Captured at the Source of the Great Sea”
2. “Descendant of the Winged Dragon That Crawled on the Earth, Fallen into Oil and Mud – Drowned in the Tears of the Ever-Changing Ones”
Both were being sold for 50 credits per 200g. The fresh batch had just come out, so I couldn’t resist buying 400g of the first type.

Other stores were having their own sales—delis were offering Mandragora Salad and Tender Braised Orc Meat, while greengrocers advertised Jack-O’-Lantern Specials and 20% Off Golden Apples and Flat Peaches. Even the liquor stores had signs reading “Fresh Nectar Wine Just Arrived!”

Enjoying the bustling atmosphere, I made my way to Patterson’s Pharmacy.

Inside, everything was as usual. Gonzales was reading a newspaper.

“Hey.”

I stepped in casually.

“Welcome. …Oh, it’s you. Looks like you didn’t run into the enemy fleet of that shady chancellor from the neighboring country.”

“Apparently, they were there, but when they saw the [Demon God], they turned tail and ran.”

I grabbed a chair and sat across the counter.

“Thanks to that, I didn’t die.”

“We also probably owe that to the 11th Fleet, too.”

We exchanged our usual banter.

“So, what do you need?”

“The usual candy. Oh, and I wanted to thank you for the map, even though I didn’t use it.”

“I see.”

As he lined up the candy on the counter, he added,

“If you’re thanking me, you should bring a gift.”

So, I placed my recently purchased “Descendant of the Winged Dragon That Crawled on the Earth, Fallen into Oil and Mud – Captured at the Source of the Great Sea” on the counter.

“That’s from Arrow one Monster Meat Shop, isn’t it?”

“Yeah, it was fresh out of the fryer, so I couldn’t resist.”

Gonzales took two bottles of soda from the fridge and handed one to me. I opened the container labeled “[Descendant of the Winged Dragon That Crawled on the Earth, Fallen into Oil and Mud – Captured at the Source of the Great Sea].” Of course, it was still warm, and steam was rising from it.

We both opened our sodas and silently toasted. Since they were plastic bottles, they didn’t make a good sound.

By the way, three months after this day, the following sentences were handed down to those who participated in the rebellion:

Civilians who were forcibly conscripted would face a fine of 12 million credits or up to 2 years in prison.

Civilians who volunteered for the uprising would face a minimum of 5 years in prison, with additional penalties on an individual basis.

Nobles forced to participate in the uprising would face a fine of 5 billion 400 million credits or up to 5 years in prison.

Nobles who voluntarily participated in the uprising would have their titles stripped, their lands confiscated, and face a minimum of 10 years in prison, with the possibility of the death penalty.

The ringleaders who instigated the uprising would have their titles stripped and lands confiscated, followed by public execution.

Some nobles wished to appeal or challenge the sentences, but their requests were denied.
