Strongest in the Supernatural School Volume 2 chapter 4 part 3

Right after Kurotsuki spoke, the ice shattered.

Buried in the ice debris was a man rushing forward.

“I’ll give you my thoughts, it was really cold!”

From breaking the freezing to the close approach, it was less than a second.

The power was unchanged – no, the fist approaching Kurotsuki’s eyes even surpassed the previous attack.

The freezing damage didn’t matter. In fact, he had already recovered from it.

Kurotsuki frowned at the extraordinary recovery ability, then flew back to avoid the strike.

“I see. Then, shall I burn you next?”

“I’ll pass, thanks!”

But Shinzaki didn’t let up on his attacks either.

Dodge a punch, then a spinning kick, then sand comes flying.

Caught in the endless barrage of harm, Kurotsuki couldn’t find an opening to use his magic. He gradually retreated, until he found the school building wall right behind him.

“Take this!”

With a deflated voice, a heel drop strike.

“…!?”

A bad premonition. Feeling his spine freeze as he saw the attack.

He instinctively used a teleportation spell to avoid it.

Immediately, the heel drop struck the school building, and – the building split in two.

The impact alone cracked the reinforced concrete.

A direct hit would have physically ended his life.

Kurotsuki showed a large, twisted smile, while Shinzaki looked up at him.

“Aw, you got away. Teleportation magic, levitation magic? You’re impressively floating, amazing!”

“…I see the murderous intent in you, Shinzaki Yasuhito.”

“Nooo way! That was just praise, probably though!”

Of course, that was just an excuse. Given the school rules, Shinzaki couldn’t openly state he wanted to kill. So he avoided a direct statement. “Accidentally” or “unintentionally” killing him.

In that form, there was a “precedent” in this academy.

About half a year ago, there was a coup centered around the then-second-year students.

Student Council President and many other students rebelled against the school. In the ensuing conflict, many were injured, and one student lost their life.

However, this incident was hushed up within the school, and never revealed to the outside world.

Naturally, a sacrifice in the unique circumstances of a coup is different from killing at the Sports Festival.

(But the school can cover up murders. So this time will be the same, right?)

Shinzaki didn’t know the reason, but the school thoroughly concealed any conflicts within it.

So Shinzaki judged that it would be fine. As long as it didn’t violate the law, killing would be allowed – or so he thought.

“Sh-Shinzaki-kun, you’re…”

“Too bad, Asahina. Here, you can’t hit me.”

The defensive wall of the Sports Festival rules. Since outside intervention would be a violation, Asahina Kasumi couldn’t help Kurotsuki Kanade. Unless the entire class was willing to be disqualified to help Kurotsuki, it would take time to organize that.

And in that time, killing would be within reach.

(Moreover, Asahina, you probably trust Kurotsuki, don’t you?)

This time, that trust would be his downfall. Shinzaki crouched down and rushed forward in one motion.

“Here I go, the power of [Creating Chains] × [Metal Control]!”

Chains surged out from all over his body, rushing straight towards Kurotsuki.

Kurotsuki snapped his fingers.

“[Double Deployment – Thunder Roar]”

And thunder roared. It was a devastating attack on par with Asahina Kasumi’s.

Enveloping the countless chains, the lightning struck Shinzaki’s body. But within it, Shinzaki was still moving.

“It’s on par, but not quite there! Asahina was still stronger!”

“I suppose so. But losing to someone isn’t very interesting.”

As Kurotsuki raised his hands, a massive magical power began to swirl.

“【Triple Manifestation】”

Three magical circles appeared in the sky above Shinzaki.

His “stacking” technique was not simple addition, but rather a multiplicative effect that grew in power.

It was truly an extraordinary magic. That’s why it was also very difficult to control, and this triple manifestation was the limit of Kurotsuki’s abilities.

But once activated, its firepower was enough to kill a person.

“Disappear, 【Scorching Flames】”

Bright red flames engulfed and consumed Shinzaki Yasuhito.

The power and heat were overwhelming – just being near it would burn one’s lungs.

Many of the students were certain of Shinzaki’s defeat, but–

“【An Ability that Destroys Abilities】”

With those words, a slashing strike cut through the scorching flames.

A moment later, the shockwave rang out, and the airborne Kurotsuki was blown away by the air pressure alone.

“Ugh… you cut through the flames?”

“That’s not all I did, you know.”

Hearing those words from in front of him, Kurotsuki’s eyes widened.

–Shinzaki’s speed had increased even further.

Shinzaki was already right in front of him. Kurotsuki briefly thought that Shinzaki had been holding back, but that moment of realization proved crucial.

“Rrraagh!”

Shinzaki Yasuhito’s fist slammed into Kurotsuki’s abdomen.

Mercilessly, with the divine emperor’s blessing and 100% output. This was Shinzaki’s full power, which he had not shown to Amamori.

It easily pierced through Kurotsuki’s toned abs, causing his internal organs to thrash wildly.

The pain came a moment later. As he felt the excruciating pain, fresh blood gushed from his throat.

The impact then sent Kurotsuki flying, breaking through the school building’s wall.

He belatedly realized that he had been flung across the schoolyard and into the opposite building.

“Gah, cough, ugh…”

If his body enhancement hadn’t been in place, a gaping hole would have been blown through his torso.

The agonizing pain wouldn’t subside, and he felt dizzy, pressing his head.

Kurotsuki put a hand on his knee and stood up – only to find a knee strike coming at him.

“…!?”

“Oh, you dodged that beautifully! Impressive!”

Twisting his upper body, he avoided Shinzaki’s knee strike, which cut through the air.

However, even without a direct hit, he could sense the sheer power of that kick.

(There’s no doubt about it – if that had hit me, my head would have been blown off.)

Using his levitation magic, he returned to the schoolyard from the broken building.

Dismissing the magic, he landed on the ground, but his knees buckled. Trying to stand up, his trembling legs wouldn’t listen, and he gritted his teeth.

(Damn it. If this was just fear-induced trembling, it would’ve been better.)

But there was no fear. The only one Kurotsuki Kanade feared was a single person.

So he realized. His body was crying out, that’s all.

“Just a single blow, huh…”

“That’s right, that’s me. No matter how much effort, tricks, struggles, ingenuity, skills, or divine abilities, a single swing of my fist can destroy it all. That’s the Overlord Shinzaki, me.”

From behind the broken wall, Shinzaki leisurely approached.

His strength was unreasonably overwhelming. Kurotsuki recalled the words Amamori had told him and let out a wry smile.

(Amamori-san. If you had foreseen this level of strength, you should have told me.)

Amamori had read Kurotsuki’s situation accurately and predicted his defeat.

It was likely not a mistake. In pure physical might, Kurotsuki was inferior to Shinzaki.

Kurotsuki had acknowledged that, and even accepted his own defeat.

“…Then, if I win, I’ll become an ‘unexpected’ result, won’t I?”

He showed a youthful smile, genuinely delighted.

“…Suddenly, what are you even saying?”

“…No, I just felt sorry for you. –No matter how much you dance, you’re just in the palm of someone hand. Without even realizing it, you keep dancing, and I pity you for that.”

These words came from the bottom of his heart, just an honest sentiment.

And they effortlessly passed through Shinzaki’s boiling point.

“Hah, hahaha! You’re joking, right? Are you the type to say your own defeat was planned all along? I hate that kind of thing! If you’re in my way, I’ll just crush it all! Defeat is for the weak, Kurotsuki Kanade!”

“I’d like to teach you a lesson. I want you to win comfortably for once.”

As he said that, Kurotsuki took a deep breath to calm himself.

The contradictory Shinzaki tilted his head, but – suddenly, he recalled a sense of unease he had felt before.

[Why is Kurotsuki Kanade so calmly existing behind Asahina?]

Kurotsuki had even given up the great advantage of not being noticed. Shinzaki had once felt uneasy about that, and now that unease was at the edge of being solved.

“–Could it be. There’s still someone in Class C, isn’t there?”

At those words, Kurotsuki did not break his smile. That alone was the answer.

“…Asahina isn’t the type to do that kind of behind-the-scenes work, is she?”
