- Anyway, I’m bound to get into some trouble.
There is nothing unusual about my background, except for the fact that I am a reincarnated person.
To begin with, just because I’m a reincarnator doesn’t really mean anything, honestly.
The world I reincarnated into is no different from the modern world except that card games are everything.
Since I was already a working adult in my previous life, I honestly don’t remember things like studying in middle and high school.
You could say there were almost no advantages to being a reincarnator.
Put another way, the me who reincarnated is me in the card game world.
My family structure, surrounding environment – everything is exactly the same as my previous life.
Honestly, right after reincarnating, I couldn’t sense any change besides “getting younger.”
If I had to say, the only thing was that the name of the town I live in became “Tenka city.”
Like “Ignition Fight” … the stage for the card game world, kind of name.
There was no town like that in my previous life.
Anyway, even for me, changes arose once I realized this world revolved entirely around card games.
Since I was originally an otaku who indulged in trading card games in my previous life, I got used to it in an instant.
Moreover, my drawing ability had clearly improved from my previous life, and I quickly started making a name for myself in “Ignition Fight.”
Earning praise from those around me, I began walking a completely different life from my previous unremarkable self… however.
Up until now, I had never been involved in any major incidents in this world.
Never, not at all.
Even though I was strong enough to fight evenly with pro fighters from childhood.
Strong enough to be a main character in the story!
In fact, one of my friends even became the main protagonist!
Why?! What the heck?! I was never involved at all!
Ah, I couldn’t help laughing out loud when I found out on the news that my friend had saved the world.
You should have consulted me! Our fighting abilities are on par!
That’s what I thought, but.
The answer that came back was:
“You must have had some major incident of your own to deal with. I couldn’t bother you with this…”
This is it.
There’s nothing, absolutely nothing!?
While you were nearly dying, I was just leisurely living my peaceful daily life!?
When I gave that response, surely they must have thought having my strength would have made things a bit easier.
My friend crumpled to their knees –
Since then, for some reason those around me have thought I was involved in major incidents, and I frequently get consulted about incidents they’re dealing with themselves.
Put another way, so many incidents were happening around me that I frequently got consulted.
Nevertheless, I never got involved in resolving any of them at all.
Yet, I’m thought to be a mysterious, powerful figure resolving all sorts of incidents behind the scenes.
Let me say this.
I don’t get it. ────

That said, it’s not entirely unreasonable that I’m seen as such a powerful figure.
While I may not get caught up in the core of incidents, I do get involved in the incidents themselves.
It happened in the dead of night.
I was doing various tasks at my card shop “Duelist” that I own and operate.
Making original card packs, organizing inventory, and so on.
As for why I was working at such an hour, it’s simply because I felt like doing some work for some reason.
It’s not that I’m a workaholic or anything.
I was leisurely working while streaming videos and anime on my smartphone.
Unlike a normal shop, this is my territory – the card shop I own and operate myself.
No one is going to get mad at me for casually working after closing hours.
Sometimes I even use the online battle function of the “Ignition Field” to fight duelists across the nation.
Ah, abusing one’s authority sure is fun, isn’t it?
I had just finished that enjoyable work and was about to head home to rest when this happened.
My shop is a detached house, and there’s also living space on the second floor, but that certain employee who instigated customers against me lives there, so I can’t go home.
Well, it’s just a short walk away, so it’s not that inconvenient.
And that’s when it happened.
“Hehehe, you must be Mitsuru the shop manager.”
An suspicious person suddenly called out to me.
The kind of punk who looks like he’d lick a knife with his tongue.
Ah, Mitsuru Tanafuda is my name, by the way.
I’m overwhelmingly more often called the shop manager, so there’s not much need to remember that.
“…What do you want?”
“Hand over your rare cards to me! Gyahahahaha!”
A robber after my cards.
Even in my previous world, problematic people trying to break into card shops was an issue.
It’s no different in this world.
If I had to say –
“Bring out your ‘Ignis Board’!”
“Tch…A dark fight, what a pain.”
Clicking my tongue, I take out my Ignis Board from my bag.
A shield-shaped board – you could think of it as this world’s version of a Duel Disk.
The difference from a Duel Disk is that when activated, it starts floating around me.
A dark fight refers to fighting using a special kind of card called “demon cards,” which prevents the opponent from escaping.
Demon cards possess special powers, and when a duelist with them challenges someone to a fight, a dark space forms around them preventing escape.
It’s a real hassle.
There’s only one way out of this:
The way befitting of a world where card games are everything.
“…Ignition!”
“Ignition! Gyahahahaha!”
I have no choice but to settle this with a card game.
And so, the dark Ignition Fight – a dark fight – began.
The fight proceeded in my favor.
The punk summoned monsters I’ve never heard of, and I summoned those to attack his ace.
Taking damage, the punk defiantly laughed… just the kind of cliched progression you’d expect.
He was probably going to summon some mysterious monster I didn’t know about to turn the tables on me.
But I wish he’d do that a bit earlier if possible.
Just what time does this guy think it is?
So, in other words.
“Hehehe, now is the time the lid of hell’s cauldron opens! Appear! The Hellhound monster! !”
The moment the punk summoned this supposed Hellhound monster:
“Oh, I activate to negate that summon and destroy it!”
“Eh?”
I destroyed that monster.
The punk looked at me like he couldn’t believe what he was seeing.
“What’s wrong, looking at me like you can’t summon your ace monster after the setup was destroyed?”
“…I, end turn.”
It seems he can’t summon any further backup.
For these dark duelists’ demon cards, the monsters are usually large-sized.
If you try destroying the ones that come out, they often have resistances that prevent it.
So it’s faster to just destroy the setup.
Amateur duelists can’t really recover if you do that, since they can’t just summon their ace out of nowhere.
They can only lament not having a proper ace they could’ve brought out.
And so, in an unsportsmanlike way, I delivered the finishing blow to the punk next turn.
You might think I could have at least shown his ace some respect,
but I’d like you to experience being challenged to a dark fight at this hour as well.
“N-No way, it wasn’t supposed to be like this! Uwaaaaaah!”
And then, the punk was suddenly engulfed in black flames that sprouted from his feet – and vanished.
When the one who initiated a dark fight loses, their soul gets taken away somewhere by the demon cards like that.
It may seem dangerous, but usually it returns if you defeat the big boss behind it all.
A classic trope from hobby anime.
“Ah, the card is left behind…what a pain.”
And then, the demon card the punk was likely holding remained floating in the air and came into my possession.
Whether or not a card is left behind after the dark duelist vanishes varies by card, and this time was the troublesome case.
Because if a card is left behind, I have to report it to some organization or other.
“Don’t move!”
Just as I was thinking that, an imposing yet concerned-sounding voice called out to me.
A voice that couldn’t tell if I was the culprit or victim.
It seems an agent from that “some organization or other” had come over from their end.
This will probably make things a bit easier.
— The reason I’m seen as powerful is because I’ve frequently been targeted by dark duelists and fended them off,
ever since I was little.
Over and over, persistently targeted – but they never really tried to drag me into the core of any incidents.
This time will probably be no different, and I won’t get deeply involved…
is what I thought as I turned towards the voice.
TIP: Duelists who engage in dark fights are called dark duelists. Dark duelists who lose vanish, but if the mastermind behind it all loses, those who vanished can be revived.
