Newly written Side Story: The Beginning of the Tale The Meeting of [Reiner Baldia] and [Nunnaly Ronamis] – Part 2
“Mmm… Ah, morning already… Ugh, a headache. I drank too much yesterday…”
That morning, Reiner woke up in his room at the Baldia mansion in the imperial capital of Magnolia, struck by a severe hangover. However, the hangover that assailed Reiner was due to the fateful events that had occurred the day before, and despite the headache, he didn’t feel bad about it.
“Heh… To think that the young lady from that time would become my betrothed, [Nunnaly Ronamis]…”
Reiner reminisced about the events leading up to yesterday with a sense of deep emotion.
Reiner Baldia is the only son of Count Esther Baldia. Currently, he’s living in the Baldia family mansion in the imperial capital to build connections and learn about territory management for the future. In the capital, he spends his days working as an aide to his friend, Crown Prince [Arwin Magnolia].
Amidst his relatively busy days, a letter arrived from his parents back home. The content was that his parents had arranged a marriage meeting for him. They would also be coming to the imperial capital for this meeting. At first, Reiner wasn’t sure what to think, but considering that marriage could be a way of showing filial piety, he decided to accept the meeting graciously.
On the day of the meeting, when Reiner went to the Ronamis house and met his potential marriage partner, [Nunnaly Ronamis], he was left speechless. Looking back now, it was probably love at first sight.
However, as he conversed with her, he learned an even more surprising fact. It turned out that Reiner had previously saved Nunnaly when she was attacked by ruffians, without knowing who she was at the time. Nunnaly had learned Reiner’s name by chance during that incident and had been looking for him ever since.
As they talked about various things, Reiner began to realize that she had developed feelings for him. Since he had also fallen in love with Nunnaly at first sight, there was no reason to refuse the marriage proposal.
Before he knew it, he had proposed marriage on the spot. Nunnaly happily accepted Reiner’s proposal. Both sets of parents were overjoyed that things had worked out, and they ended up enjoying some drinks right there at the Ronamis house where the meeting had taken place.
“Well, I knew Father was a heavy drinker, but I didn’t expect Lord Tristan to be such a drinker too. I’ll have to be more careful about my drinking pace next time…”
Yes, Reiner’s father, Esther, is famous for his ability to hold his liquor. Perhaps inheriting that trait, Reiner had rarely experienced getting drunk. However, yesterday, overestimating his own alcohol tolerance, he continued to drink at the same pace as Nunnaly’s father, Tristan, resulting in his collapse. At that time, Reiner’s mother, Trett, had furiously scolded Esther and Tristan, saying, “How dare you get one of the main characters drunk!?” Nunnaly seemed to have been laughing heartily at that. Fortunately, as he could trace his memories, he probably hadn’t done anything improper… Reiner breathed a sigh of relief, but suddenly had a realization.
“Oh no, I need to prepare for work soon…! Ugh… So this is what a hangover feels like. Haha, looks like it’s going to be an unforgettable day…”
Reiner started preparing for work while uttering self-deprecating words with a happy smile on his face.

A few days after the marriage meeting with Nunnaly…
It was the day Reiner’s parents, Esther and Trett, were returning to Baldia territory. Reiner, Nunnaly, and Tristan had come to see them off.
“Reiner, and Lord Tristan and Lady Nunnaly, I’m grateful that you’ve come to see us off.”
Esther finished speaking and looked around, bowing to everyone. Seeing this, Nunnaly smiled happily.
“It’s nothing at all. It’s only natural to come and see off those who are to become family.”
“Nunnaly is right. From now on, we’ll be interacting as family. Lord Esther, let’s share a drink again sometime.”
Tristan smiled and made a gesture as if drinking with one hand. However, seeing this action, Nunnaly shot him a sharp glance. This was because Esther and Tristan had drunk too much at the engagement celebration, resulting in Trett’s fury. They probably understood this, as they both gave wry smiles at her gesture.
Trett also smiled at this exchange, then approached Nunnaly and gently took her hand.
“Nunnaly, please take care of Reiner. I’m sorry to say this to Lord Tristan, but I’m really looking forward to you coming to Baldia territory. Let’s talk more then.”
“Yes, Mother. I’m also looking forward to visiting Baldia territory.”
Their interaction was so heartwarming that it warmed the hearts of those watching. Reiner, seeing his mother Trett’s smile, once again felt grateful for his connection with Nunnaly. At that moment, Esther quietly called out to Reiner.
“Reiner, sorry, but there’s something I want to talk about. Come over here for a bit.”
“…? Understood.”
As Reiner approached him with a puzzled expression, Esther leaned in and began speaking in a low voice so the women couldn’t hear.
“Actually… We recently received information that a large-scale bandit group might be forming near the border of Baldia territory with other countries. Has any information come up from other countries in the imperial capital?”
“…!? No, we haven’t received any such reports from other countries. Are we talking about bandits based in Barst, Renalute, or Zvera?”
“We don’t know. This information came up suddenly. Apparently, several small bandit groups are trying to unite into one large organization. We don’t know if the information is accurate, but if a large-scale bandit group really forms, it could be troublesome. I’m planning to inspect the border area myself soon.”
Reiner’s expression showed surprise as he listened to Esther’s words. Baldia territory is a frontier with borders to other countries. There will always be a certain number of illegal immigrants and malicious individuals who commit theft and robbery across borders. Information about the possibility of these elements gathering near the border and forming a large-scale bandit group cannot be ignored. Of course, the Baldia family has a knighthood to deal with such threats. Still, if it becomes a large-scale bandit group, they can’t be careless.
Reiner’s expression had changed from earlier, now showing a grim look. Noticing this, Esther softened his expression slightly and showed a smile.
“Don’t worry. I plan to bring the Knight Commander, Vice Commander, and some elite knights for the inspection. Going with a certain scale is also intended to intimidate any unseen enemies. However, if you hear any information in the imperial capital, I’d appreciate it if you could let me know immediately.”
“Understood. I’ll also look into any information that has come to the imperial capital. Also, please inform me of the details of the inspection once they’re decided, just in case.”
He nodded at Reiner’s words and continued.
“Alright. I’ll contact you once the details of the inspection are decided.”
“Please do. Father, please don’t overexert yourself. If you’ll excuse my saying so, I’m starting to worry about your age when it comes to leading the knights.”
Esther looked puzzled for a moment, but soon understood the meaning behind his son’s words and began laughing loudly, saying, “You’ve learned to talk back, haven’t you!”
After that, Reiner’s parents boarded the carriage and set off back to Baldia territory. A few days later, Reiner received a letter from his mother, Trett. The contents mainly instructed him to take good care of Nunnaly. It also mentioned that the journey from Baldia territory to the imperial capital had been unexpectedly enjoyable for the couple, and that she was very happy to have been present for Nunnaly and Reiner’s engagement in the imperial capital. Reiner couldn’t help but smile as he read it.
“It’s a bit early for that. Heh, to think there would come a day when Father would consult Mother about such things.”
That day, Reiner was reading a letter from Trett in his room at the mansion in the imperial capital. The content was that his father, Esther, was secretly thinking about names for his grandchild. If it’s a boy, he’s apparently enthusiastically pushing for [Reed Baldia], taken from the name of the first head of the Baldia family, to Trett.
When Trett asked, “What if it’s a girl?” Esther, after some consideration, enthusiastically suggested [Meldy Baldia], taken from the name of the wife of the first head of the Baldia family.
Reiner couldn’t help but laugh imagining his once-strict father agonizing over his grandchild’s name. Because of this, it took him a little longer to finish reading Trett’s letter. However, his eyes lingered on the last line of Trett’s letter.
“Mother is also going to accompany him on the border inspection…?”
