Prologue – A Brief Summary of Events So Far
Despairing of life, I couldn’t even die properly, so I volunteered for the military hoping to die in the line of duty.
However, whether by bad luck or fate, I was thrown into the officer academy and somehow became a space navy officer… or so I thought. But here too, as if by divine mischief, I found myself seconded to the Coast Guard, a marginal department of the space navy.
I never cared about promotions to begin with, but I was disappointed to be moving further away from dying in the line of duty. At this point, one might complain about being trouble-prone, but I was then taken on a pirate subjugation mission. This could have been a happy ending with a glorious death in battle, but reality had other plans. Thanks to excellent subordinates, I ended up with a great achievement.
I received a medal, and despite just graduating from the officer academy, I was put in charge of a small, decrepit space destroyer.

However, this was a ploy by the upper echelons of the space navy and Coast Guard, hoping for my failure.
Even so, with the help of my subordinates and friends from the academy days, we managed to thwart their schemes, going against the expectations of the higher-ups. But we might have overdone it a bit.
We ended up extensively modifying the ship we were entrusted with.
The modifications were so extreme that we were hesitant to show it to anyone other than ourselves. As we were pondering how to keep it hidden, we received a summons from the royal palace and were heading towards Faren Spaceport on the capital planet.

Yea they overdid it. It wasn’t even the same starship anymore at this point.
To be fair, they were given a budget where they probably wouldn’t have been able to repair even 1/2 of it (just guessing since I don’t know what the exact numbers would be).
Also, they used scrap to save on their budget (which unfortunately or fortunately?) was from a civilian ship (which apparently has better specs than a military vessel).
