Farah-Renalute
As Father leaves the room, I ask Diana to prepare the bath. While waiting, I call upon Memory.
“Hey, Reed. You must be tired.”
“Yeah, I’m really exhausted this time.”
Memory greets me cheerfully but with gentle concern. I thank him and state my reason for calling.
“Did you find out how to make soap or any substitutes?”
“In nature, you can use ‘soapnuts’. The fruit’s shell creates a lather that works like soap. Also, you can make soap with ‘oil, water, and lye’.”
Soapnuts? I’ve never heard of them. I wonder if I read about them in a book somewhere.
“Is soapnut a weed or a tree?”
“It’s a tree. Let me send an image to your mind.”
As he says this, an image of a fruit resembling an acorn appears in my mind. I wonder when I consciously saw this before, but I move on to my next question.
“I see. Thanks. By the way, can any kind of oil work?”
“Yes. Beef or pork fat is good, but vegetable oil works too.”
“I see. Thanks, I’ll ask if I need anything else.”
“Wait a moment, Reed.”
Unusually, Memory stops me as I’m about to end the conversation. What could it be? Then, Memory speaks with strong words.
“Don’t push yourself too hard, okay? I’ve been worried about you… That’s all I wanted to say. See you.”
Memory says what he needed to say and ends the communication. I mutter to myself:
“Yeah. Thank you, Memory.”
Just as the conversation with Memory ends, Diana returns to the room. The hot spring is ready.
I try to resist, but Diana insists on joining me in the bath…
Meanwhile, in Farah’s room within the main castle, Asna sighs with exasperation.
“…Princess, there’s no need to be so flustered. Lord Reed will arrive soon. Please try to calm down a bit.”
“Huh…!? Oh, um, n-no, I’m perfectly calm!”
This morning, a message from Reiner arrived for Farah. It stated that his son had regained consciousness and, to apologize for causing worry, he wished to visit.
Farah was overjoyed and replied immediately… but afterward, she was suddenly overcome with an indescribable embarrassment. She found herself unable to sit still, pacing around the room. Asna, who had been watching this behavior all morning, maintains her exasperated expression.
“…Also, Princess Farah. Forgive my rudeness, but your ears are moving.”
“Huh? Oh!”
Farah startles, hastily covering her ears with both hands as she sits down in a nearby chair. She has a tendency for her ears to move up and down when she experiences strong positive emotions. This trait is said to be rare among Dark Elves. While she can control it when conscious of it, her ears move involuntarily with her emotions when she’s not paying attention. Blushing slightly at Asna’s observation, she takes a deep breath to calm herself. Then, she begins to reminisce about the events since meeting Reed.

Reed Baldia. When he greeted his father Elias, Farah was also present. At that moment, seeing his face for the first time, she was inwardly shocked.
(The boy from the Baldia territory…!?)
As far as she could tell, he didn’t seem to recognize her. However, Farah clearly remembered that time, and this unexpected reunion was startling.
Farah was busy with her studies assigned by Eltia and had little contact with anyone except specific individuals. That’s why the boy who helped her when she got lost in the Baldia territory left such a strong impression. While she was surprised by his impressive self-introduction to Elias, Farah’s mind was preoccupied with something else.
(There’s no doubt, it’s definitely him…)
She glanced at his face repeatedly, whispering to herself in her mind. As her feelings grew closer to certainty, she remembers her heart pounding. At that moment, Elias asked him about marriage to Farah.
A small pain ran through her heart. Everyone had been saying how pitiful it was that Farah would marry into the empire. However, she was royalty. Through listening to Eltia’s words and studying various subjects, she had come to understand, to some extent, the connections between countries and the role of a princess. Farah was prepared for this marriage in her own way. But the eyes of those around her were filled with sympathy, pity, or saw her only for her value as a princess.
And when the topic of marriage came up, people only spoke with inoffensive words, never once offering congratulations or encouragement. She thought he would surely say something safe and noncommittal too. But he was different.
“I believe this marriage between Renalute and the Baldia territory must absolutely take place.”
At his words, Farah’s eyes widened in astonishment. She had never dreamed that she would hear “the marriage must absolutely take place” from him, an imperial noble and a marriage candidate.
When Farah’s eyes widened, he seemed to notice and gave her a smile. At that moment, Farah’s heart skipped a beat. At the same time, his words began to resonate more and more in her heart, and her heart began to race even faster.
He had said he wanted to marry her, even if it was a connection between countries. He had said it should happen with his own mouth, not as an arrangement between countries or parents. She was overjoyed. While everyone else was negative about the marriage, he voluntarily said he wanted to marry. His demeanor was full of confidence and very reassuring. Eltia had told her not to open her heart, but she thinks this was the moment she did.
After that, he continued to debate with Elias and Norris without backing down even a step. Eventually, he outargued Norris and even convinced King Elias. He was so reliable, dazzling, and cool. Then, when it was her turn to introduce herself, she greeted him while trying to maintain her composure despite her racing heart. But her mother pointed out:
“Your ears are moving. It’s unseemly.”
Startled by those words, Farah took a deep breath to calm herself. But at the same time, she realized and became aware:
(I’m attracted to Lord Reed…)
His successful streak continued after that. He handled Raycis like a baby and continued to challenge Asna’s swordsmanship without giving up until the end. Watching him, the pounding in Farah’s chest grew stronger and stronger.
Then, an incident occurred during the magic demonstration. She didn’t know the details, but apparently, he became enraged at Norris’s terrible provocation and unleashed an incredible spell. Everyone was terrified by the large-scale magic. But what surprised her was that his gaze was fixed not on the target, but on Norris. At that moment, Farah immediately understood his intention and found herself running towards him.
When he shouted something, Elias and Reiner, who had rushed over first, were blown away by what seemed to be a shockwave. Seeing this, Farah’s expression showed a hint of fear, but she ran through, determined to stop him. Before she knew it, Raycis was also by her side. The two exchanged glances, nodded, and desperately tried to persuade him while embracing him. Asna also rushed over to help.
Eventually, yielding to their desperate persuasion, he nodded and released the magic high into the sky. At that moment, a tremendous roar echoed around them, and it was very frightening. But he gently embraced Farah as if to protect her. Even he seemed to have consumed a considerable amount of magical power to cast such a spell. Shortly after, he lost consciousness.
Elias and Reiner imposed a gag order on everyone present regarding the magic he had unleashed, then hurriedly carried him to his room in the guest house. Farah was allowed to accompany them and stayed by his side as long as time permitted.
As the night grew late, only Farah, Asna, and his guard Diana remained in his room. At that time, there was a knock on the door, and Reiner entered. When Farah inquired, she learned that he had come to check on his son’s condition.
Reiner looked around at those in his son’s room with a surprised expression. Then, he asked to speak with Princess Farah alone. When Farah agreed, Asna and Diana bowed and left the room. As they left and the sound of the door closing echoed in the quiet room, Reiner gently spoke to Farah.
“I apologize for my son causing you worry.”
“Oh, no, we should be the ones apologizing. I’m so sorry.”
Farah had been sitting in a chair next to the bed where he was sleeping, but she showed a surprised expression at the sudden apology. She quickly stood up from her chair and responded politely. Hearing her answer, Reiner’s stern face softened slightly, showing a gentle expression. Then, he politely asked Farah:
“If I may ask, what does Princess Farah think of Reed?”
“Huh…!? Um, well, I think he’s a wonderful person…”
Surprised by the sudden question, she answered while desperately trying to maintain her composure. Without realizing it herself, Farah’s ears were moving up and down vigorously at this moment. Hearing her answer, Reiner gently continued speaking.
