Geek Mob Mercenary (LIGHT NOVEL VERSION) Volume 3 chapter 65

Mob No. 65: “However, please do not leave this place until the culprit is arrested. If you try to leave carelessly, you might be suspected as an accomplice.”

The first 12-hour break ended fortunately without any trouble, thanks to being engaged in conversation with Ms. Rossweisse.

The next day’s shift was just as boring as the previous day.

All the guests who were sent invitations attended.

Since everything necessary for the party was prepared the day before, there were no vendors coming in and out.

While the party venue must be bustling with activity, security around the colony is extremely quiet.

Of course, we can’t let our guard down since anything could happen.

However, there was one small change.

Only those who had been managing the queues were allowed to participate in the security at the party venue.

The reason for involving them in the party venue security was probably to [keep them] in.

Well, if they look good and behave properly, the nobles would want to corral them.

Especially the two with the “feathered helmets” must be irresistible.

Arthur and Miss Seira are also promising candidates, so it must be tough for them…

This was probably the intention from the beginning.

All I can do is pray for my acquaintances to return safely.

As time passed and the second day’s shift ended, when I returned to the residential colony, those who had been sent to guard the party venue had returned.

Some were happy, some looked disappointed, and others were indignant. However, the two women I knew were incredibly angry.

“This is absolutely ridiculous! ‘Be my bodyguard’ is one thing, but ‘Be my lover’? Are they out of their minds?”

Miss Seira was so furious she looked like she was about to grow horns on her forehead, crushing a juice can in her hand.

“Why are all the nobles so disgusting… Can’t we just turn that entire colony into space dust?”

Ms. Rossweisse is muttering some dangerous things!

You really could do that, so please stop!

Meanwhile, their respective partners(?), Arthur and Lambert, were in stark contrast, looking completely exhausted.

They were probably surrounded by noble ladies.

Well, that’s the fate of protagonists, I suppose.

After listening to their complaints for a while,

having finished dinner and bath, just as I was relaxing and getting ready to rest, an emergency alert sounded:

[Emergency Alert! Emergency Alert! Currently, an unidentified fleet is approaching. As they are refusing to confirm their ship codes, we are assuming they are pirates or raiders. Combat personnel, prepare for immediate deployment. Non-combatants, please evacuate and prepare for escape. Repeating…]

The standard emergency broadcast played.

I quickly changed clothes and headed to my ship, following the control tower’s instructions to intercept.

The attackers were mostly small craft and drones, but their number was abnormal.

At a glance, there seemed to be about 700-800 of them.

To be honest, there’s nothing of value in the party venue colony or the residential colony except for the colonies themselves.

Even if they wanted to dismantle and sell them, it would take time, and selling them as-is would be easily traceable and costly.

Therefore, it must be an attempt to hold the nobles attending the party for ransom.

In that case, we can’t let these guys through.

[This is Control Tower! Don’t let a single one of them into the colony! Internal security team, secure the entrances!]

The control tower understands this too and gives precise instructions.

With that signal, we mercenaries began our interception.

However, I soon felt something was off.

[What’s with these guys? There’s no resistance at all!]

[This ain’t giving my skills any challenge!]

There was absolutely no resistance.

They do attack and chase us, but their movements lack vitality.

You could say it’s because they’re unmanned, but even the manned craft lack spirit.

Because of this, Morise and Levin, who were happy to get some exercise, voiced their complaints.

Could it be that the party organizers prepared this as an event?

If so, that would be quite troublesome.

[It’s fine, isn’t it? It’s easy. Besides, look, those two are fired up, so we can leave it to them.]

As old man Bernard said, on the battlefield before us, Miss Seira and Ms. Rossweisse were going on a rampage.

[I’m devoted only to Arthur-sama! Don’t you dare cling to Arthur-sama, you damn bitches!]

[Don’t come near me, you disgusting creatures!]

With their angry words, unmanned craft and small vessels were exploding at an incredible rate.

They were on the verge of wiping them all out.

It would be dangerous to get too close and get caught in the crossfire.

The other mercenaries understood this and kept their distance.

[But… Lambert is seriously amazing. When he’s having a soul-to-soul conversation with me, he doesn’t give off this kind of vibe at all…]

Levin muttered, watching Ms. Rossweisse destroy unmanned craft at an incredible speed.

That’s to be expected.

The one rampaging now is Ms. Rossweisse herself.

But to everyone else, it probably looks like Lambert is piloting and supporting Ms. Rossweisse as she shouts.

Thanks to the efforts of these two angry maidens, all the attackers were silenced about 46 minutes after the attack began.

This led to a new mission of cleaning up the resulting debris, but that mission was assigned to those who were on break.

I should have gone to bed earlier.

By the time the debris cleanup was finished, there were less than two hours until the shift change, so I took a 90-minute nap and headed to the docking bay. However, even though we were supposed to change shifts on site, for some reason, everyone had returned.

Wondering what was going on, I heard this announcement:

[Announcement to all personnel. All employees and mercenaries are to return to their assigned rooms and not leave under any circumstances until permission is given. Anyone who breaks this rule may be arrested as a murder suspect. Details will be explained later. For now, quietly follow instructions. Repeating. Announcement to all personnel–]

An unusual announcement came through.

Something must have happened at the party venue colony.

And judging from the content of the announcement, I guess there must have been a famous detective at that party venue.

Not knowing how long we’d be confined, I decided to use this time to take a nap.

About four hours later,

[We apologize for the wait. All staff and mercenaries currently in this residential colony, please gather in the central hall. Repeating. All–]

I woke up to the summons announcement.

Following the broadcast, I headed to the hall we used for the initial briefing, where I found the security team captain along with someone who looked like a detective.

“Well then. I’m Wyvoid Reumann from the Capital Police Investigation Division of the nearest planet, Tumo. I was originally scheduled to investigate the reported attackers, but it suddenly turned into a murder investigation…”

He was a young man in a worn-out suit, looking a bit tired.

“Um, the victim is Count Baedaz-Chirargis-Geizam, a party attendee. Cause of death is stabbing. There were multiple stab wounds to the chest. The crime scene is inside the count’s assigned room. We’re currently investigating to identify the culprit. Right now, over there, the grandson of a baron famous for his wisdom might be putting on a deduction show, I suppose.”

So there really was one! A detective, also known as the Grim Reaper.

This doesn’t mean the detective is committing murders, but rather, murder cases always occur wherever the detective goes. This trope in mystery stories led to them being jokingly called Grim Reapers.

Still, multiple stab wounds suggest that the count must have been seriously hated.

“Oh, and by the way, everyone currently in this residential colony is cleared of suspicion. According to the testimonies from the other side, the victim was still alive during the time of the attack.”

Detective Reumann declared our innocence with a weary expression.

However, in the next moment, he threw some tense words at us:

“However, please do not leave this place until the culprit is arrested. If you try to leave carelessly, you might be suspected as an accomplice.”

At that moment, Detective Reumann’s eyes were remarkably sharp.
