The Devil Princess Volume 3 Chapter 4 part 4

“…Pardon me,”

said a man in his thirties, who seemed to be a minor nobleman. He was dressed in the unassuming attire of a guardian, but his bearing and aura suggested he might be a high-ranking nobleman’s servant. However, such contact from this kind of person was not particularly unusual for the two of them.

Not only Tina and Nia, but the four attendants also regularly receive contact from a variety of people:

Those who simply want to become acquainted with the four attractive individuals.

More directly, students confessing their love.

Noblemen who, impressed by the four’s appearance and abilities, invite them to become their own attendants.

And those who want to have a connection to the Versenia Duchy’s young lady, but have no means to approach her directly.

While the first two cases are understandable, the latter two cases share a common trait – they all look down on the four, who are still only eight and eleven years old.

The man silently gazed at Tina and Nia, giving them a forced smile.

“Are you ladies Ninette and Christina?”

“That’s not correct,”

Tina answered immediately, and the man’s eyes flickered for a moment.

A moment later, Nia nudged her with an elbow, and Tina, realizing those are their original names, corrected herself with a straight face.

“That was right.”

“…I see,”

the man said, thinking that perhaps they were using pseudonyms, but since they were from the Duchy, that wasn’t so unusual.

He then continued, “Pardon me. I am a messenger from the Costelle Church, named Ilerio. I would like to speak with your master, and with you, his attendants.”

The man who introduced himself as Ilerio said that he was a messenger of the Costelle cult.

This kind of talk was not unusual. Even though Eurushia was called a “Holy Maiden” and “Princess,” she was still young and would rarely attend social events.

There had been numerous requests for an audience with the Princess from both noble here and the royal family abroad, but they had all been declined by King Taliteld and the Duke of Versenia, saying it was still too early.

“ ‘ ’ ………… “ ‘ ’

Tina and Nia, without any change of expression, silently gazed at the man like he was an insect.

“Of course, I will provide the utmost convenience not only to the Princess, but to you as well. It will certainly not be to your detriment…”

Faced with the silence and the pressure of their gaze, the man tried to counter with words, but there was not the slightest change in Tina and Nia.

Why was he feeling such an overwhelming sense of pressure from these children of around ten years old? Feeling a sense of terror from Tina’s impassive stare, he turned his gaze to the smiling Nia, but her unwavering smile seemed even more horrifying.

The man, irritated that he was being looked at in such a way by these children, decided to move on to the main topic.

“Well well, as expected of the attendants of the ‘Saintess’,”

the man said in an affected manner and tone.

“The caution is understandable. But I am not a suspicious person. As I mentioned before, I have come from the Costelle Church. In fact, we are a faction within the Costelle Church that supports a new interpretation, and if you cooperate with us, we would be happy to recognize Princess Eurushia as the ‘Saintess’ when we establish the ‘True Holy Church’.”

In summary, his story was that his faction, which had a different interpretation of the Costelle Church’s doctrine, wanted to establish a new denomination and have Eurushia recognized as the “Saintess” of their new church.

But…

“So, can you really call yourself a messenger of the Costelle Church?”

Nia asked, tilting her head slowly.

Even though he had initially said he was a messenger of the Costelle Church, if his faction was going to be a different denomination, then he would have no real connection to the Costelle Church from the start.

“Oh no, we are still members of the current Costelle Church, so there is no mistake. It’s just a difference in interpretation,”

Ilerio said casually in response to Nia’s words.

If it was effectively a different organization, the Costelle Church’s people would surely object. But Ilerio, despite being considered capable, seemed to think he could just brush it off with enthusiasm and a smile, since they were just children.

“So?”

“Huh…?”

Ilario was puzzled by Tina’s murmur, which showed no change in expression whatsoever.

“What will this new sect do?”

“Oh, I’m so glad you asked! In this world, there are spirits, and even evil demons roam freely, yet the gods do not show themselves to us. So we have decided to gather people like you with strong magic, and offer the holy maiden’s power as prayer, to summon our great ‘god’!”

Ilario spoke with great confidence. But…

“…………..”

The two girls listened. Tina quietly narrowed her eyes, and Nia’s expression became blank.

Do the gods truly exist? Tina and Nia have never felt their presence. If they do exist, then Eurushia is their god.

But that doesn’t matter. The girls have just discovered something unforgivable.

“Gather magic power to summon the gods?”

“Yes, to invite the gods! The reason we are having this conversation here is so that if other sects propose recognizing her as a saint, we can make sure the princess rejects them. This is a preliminary negotiation.”

Ilario’s expression grew more impassioned as he spoke about the sect.

“You’ll understand soon enough. The great archbishop who had been away from Taliteld will be returning soon. He has gained the cooperation of a certain major country that sympathizes with our ideals. It would be wise to join us now.”

In the Holy Kingdom, the title of “Holy Maiden” is not easily bestowed. It was a distinction far above other titles.

Eurushia and her attendants were unaware, but inquiries about recognizing Eurushia as the Holy Maiden had come from the major sects of the Holy Kingdom. But Eurushia’s status as the princess of the Versenia Dukedom had made her existence even more special.

Traditionally, the Holy Maiden would be chosen from among the female priests and shrine maidens of the various sects, and then recognized by that sect and the royal family. But Eurushia, who could manipulate numerous divine magics with her immense power, belonged to no sect, and was only the second royal-born Holy Maiden since the first.

In effect, she was the second “true Holy Maiden” in history.

This made the royal family’s sect selection much more stringent, and the decision on Eurushia’s recognition as the Holy Maiden was on hold until she reached an age where she could make the decision herself.

As a result, the various sects could not directly approach Eurushia, and unless she expressed a special preference, the Holy Maiden recognition would likely be done through the national religion of Costelle in Taliteld.

That is why, unwilling to miss out on such a massive “billboard”, the different sects had been quietly maneuvering behind the scenes.

But there was an unspoken rule – directly inviting Eurushia was a violation.

Approaching her attendants was in a gray area, but if someone was brazenly coming to this dusty place to make persistent recruitment efforts, it would likely be an “suspicious” religion that couldn’t act openly.

“If you could put in a good word for the princess, I’d be happy to provide whatever you’d like – objects or people.”

Ilario understood that the princess and her attendants were close. She couldn’t ignore their recommendations either.

Even if they were loyal attendants to the princess, they couldn’t resist material desires. With the girls before him, even if they were children… no, precisely because they were children, there must be endless things they’d want, Ilario thought as a religious person.

But he was fundamentally mistaken.

“You… were saying some interesting things.”

“W-What do you mean…?”

Ilario involuntarily took a step back, sensing an unusual, unsettling aura from the two girls.

(What’s up with these two… they’re not normal.)

Instantly judging this, Ilario hesitated, but decided to retreat, heeding the warning from the depths of his soul.

“Excuse me, I just remembered a promise I made–“

“I heard you say you wanted to use our master.”

Interrupted by the quiet anger in her voice, Ilario cast aside his pride and bowed his head to the young girl.

“I’m very sorry. I was too hasty. I’ll be going now…”

“Are you leaving already?”

“Eek!”

Nia, who had been beside Tina, suddenly tapped Ilario’s shoulder from behind.

Immobilized. Just the touch on his shoulder made Ilario unable to move, sweating profusely, as if he had fallen into a crevice in a massive rock.

It wasn’t magic. Nor physical strength. Ilario’s soul was simply shrinking before this formidable predator.

“You were talking about summoning the gods, weren’t you?”

“In that case, wouldn’t it be ideal if you became the ‘god’s’ sustenance?”

“Oh yes, that sounds nice. Though…”

“Our ‘god’, that is.”

With the girls flanking him, exuding a horrifying presence and words, Ilario trembled, tears streaming down his face.

“Open… Paradise Lost…”

Tina’s hair emanated a black shimmer, and at that moment, the dusty old classroom transformed into the “Darkness.”

It wasn’t literal darkness. Ilerio could still see the two of them. The classroom hadn’t been enveloped in darkness; it had changed into an entirely different place.

Using her surplus magical power to conceal Eurushia’s growing “true nature,” they gradually constructed a unique subspace among the four of them.

A world born in this realm—Eurushia’s demon realm…

“Welcome to our ‘world,'”

a boy’s voice echoed from afar.

In the distance stood a towering, partially built black castle…

“Ah… ah…”

Words failed. The miasma exceeded Ilario’s capacity to endure.

The swarm of demons constructing the castle… the fact that every one of the thousands of demons was an “upper-class demon” shattered Ilario’s mind. When Noah, who appeared unexpectedly, glanced at the “guest,” he ordered the upper-class demons to throw the soul into the cauldron as if it were an assembly line, and then small “black candies” rolled out.

Requested by Eurushia and hunted by Mylene, the unnecessary humans in this world were consumed as demon fodder.

Meanwhile…

“Welcome back, Fanny.”

“Welcome home, Miss Eurushia.”

As class ended, Eurushia smiled as she tidied up her textbooks, while Fanny, dressed in a maid uniform, appeared to welcome her master.

“The hero wasn’t all that tasty.”

“Perhaps they haven’t awakened yet? As long as they don’t cause any trouble for the elder sisters… but more importantly, I haven’t seen the three of them for a while. What are they up to?”

“Oh, they’re building a secret base.”

“Well, they still have their childish moments.”

“Yeah. Miss Eurushia, would you like some candy?”

“Yes, please.”

They both popped black candies into their mouths and chuckled as they savored them.

Unaware of everything, Eurushia continued to enjoy the peace of the world, as carefree as ever.
