Chapter 4: Fei on a Mission
Fei was given a new mission. Unlike the usual requests from communities like villages or towns, this one came from an individual.
Typically, individual requests don’t offer substantial rewards.
However, this particular one promised a generous reward, attracting a few other members besides Fei.
As usual, Fei waited alone in front of the gates of the royal capital, Britannia. It seemed like the beginning of an ordinary day, but in this world, death was as common as breathing.
Fei had been reincarnated into a dark novel game world where death was expected.
──This mission too was a routine event where people died.
In the original story, after Fei let Esse and the others die during his first mission, he was given another mission. Everyone except him died, but it was deemed that the presence of the Abyss was unexpected, and he was considered lucky just for returning alive. However, not everyone saw it that way, and some blamed Fei.
Despite his complaints, Fei ended up going on the mission with Alpha, a sub-protagonist.
Winter was setting in, and recently, it had begun to snow in the capital. The new year was approaching, and the residents of the capital were all bundled up in thick clothes. Fei also wore two layers and had a Yuru scarf wrapped around his neck.
Two men approached him.
“Hey, Fei. Long time no see.”
“Esse…”
“I’m here too!”
The duo who shouldn’t have been there, Esse and Kamase, appeared. Fei barely reacted, glancing at them for a moment before losing interest and closing his eyes again.
“Hey, the girls coming with us on this mission are really cute and famous, you know.”
“Not interested.”
“I plan to start as friends!”
“While we get along well with the fruit vendor’s granny, we’re not popular with girls our age, so we need to make a good impression here!”

“Ugh, it seems like someone who knows Arthur and Bowlan can’t understand our feelings.”
Fei showed no interest, causing Esse and Kamase to look displeased. Just then, footsteps approached them.
“Oh, you’re here.”
Holy Knight Marumaru appeared as their instructor, with three stunning beauties behind him. Esse and Kamase’s eyes widened.
“Wow, they’re really beautiful, just as expected!”
“Finally, our spring has come!”
One had purple hair and shining silver eyes, a great figure with alluring curves.

“You’ve already mentioned my name. There’s no need to say more.”
With that, Fei fell silent, showing no interest. Alpha and Gamma looked relieved to see at least one decent person among them.
“Alright, since the introductions are done, shall we go?”
Smiling, Marumaru led the seven of them through the gates. Fei was heading on a mission, but the main protagonist, Arthur, and True were on a different mission today. Arthur had no problems at the moment.
True was also free from any depressing events for now, so things were peaceful.
However, this didn’t mean there wouldn’t be any grim events. Even when they weren’t around, things happened.

Esse kept pestering Gamma, who completely ignored him, while Alpha viewed him as a nuisance.
Alpha was the eldest, Beta was the quiet middle sister, and Gamma, who had a peculiar way of speaking, was the youngest. The trio of beautiful sisters was well-known among their peers.
Esse and Kamase wanted to talk to them but hadn’t had the chance until now, so they were eager not to miss this opportunity.

Beta completely ignored Kamase, not uttering a word. Eventually, Kamase grew quiet too, making Marumaru smile wryly.

Marumaru had trained Alpha and her sisters during their probation period and realized that Alpha was an avenger. Beta and Gamma also had mysterious aspects, but Alpha was notably vengeful. Her eyes often held a muddy look, though not as much as Fei’s or Maria’s.
As a veteran knight, Marumaru had seen many people and recognized Alpha’s thirst for revenge.
Alfa is a revenger.
Marumaru hoped Fei, an unpredictable element, would positively influence Alpha. He couldn’t predict what would happen,
but he wished for a good outcome.
“Honestly, men… huh? What’s wrong, Beta?”

Beta tugged on Alpha’s sleeve, glancing at Fei. Alpha tilted her head, wondering what was up.
“What is it?”
“…!!”
“Did he help you the other day when you were being harassed?”
“…!!”
Beta nodded twice and made some gestures, never uttering a word, but Alpha understood. The sisters had a strong bond.
Beta had been harassed by a drunkard in the daytime, and Fei had helped her, as Beta conveyed through gestures.
“Really? It was him.”
“…”
“Do you want to thank him?”
“…!!”
Beta mimicked a wolf and made an okay sign. Despite her expressionless face, she had a unique way of communicating, unlike a certain panda.
“Got it. Let’s go.”
Taking Beta’s hand, Alpha approached the stoic man walking alone at the back.
“Hey, can we talk?”
“…”
Alpha and Beta lined up next to Fei, who shot them a sharp glance. It was refreshing for the two girls to be glared at like this.
“…What do you want?”
“You helped this girl the other day, right? She wants to thank you.”
“……”
A sharp gaze became even sharper. Although Fei was just squinting, lost in thought, his expression looked intensely hostile.
First, Fei noticed Beta’s slightly long hair tied into a ponytail. Walking alongside her, she stared expressionlessly at Beta’s eyes for a few seconds.
Then, as if remembering something, she averted her gaze.
“…Not interested. Such things are unnecessary.”
“Huh? That reaction was unexpected… but whatever. Anyway, thanks.”
” ……!!! “
Alpha thanked her, and Beta bowed slightly in response. However, with a dismissive wave of her hand, she indicated she had no interest, conveying that she didn’t intend to talk further. Alpha sensed this.

Beta’s persistent gaze seemed to annoy Fei, who fell back a bit behind Alpha and the others.
