The Suspects of Necromancy Volume 1 Chapter 12

SIDE4

Descending the pitch-dark staircase, they found themselves in a vast basement.

The room was dimly lit with a bluish glow from magical lights.

In the center stood something resembling an altar, and Luna lay upon it.

Blood was visible trickling from her neck.

The man with gray hair standing beside her must be Kahn.

Kahn looked at Rath and the others curiously.

“How did you get here? Did you defeat the Grim Reaper?”

His tone was flat, not particularly surprised.

However, blood dripped from the corner of his mouth.

“You bastard! What did you do to Luna?”

Rath, furious, aimed his sword at Kahn.

“This has nothing to do with you. I bought Luna with money,”

Kahn replied emotionlessly.

“Do you think you can do whatever you want with a person’s life just because you paid for it?”

“Rules are something people make up. They are not the truth.”

“Damn it…”

Rath felt the frustration of being unable to reason with Kahn.

“Lord Rath,”

Luciana whispered from behind.

“Since Kahn has become the Immortal Lich King, we should retreat. We can’t win alone.”

Luciana was calmly assessing that they had little chance against the Immortal King.

“I’ll defeat him here. You all can leave if you want.”

Rath answered without taking his eyes off Kahn.

“I will help,”

Killian said, drawing his sword.

“Luna is also my friend.”

“Sigh, I guess I have no choice,”

Luciana said, gripping her staff tighter.

“Even if the master is foolish, it is the duty of the subordinates to follow.”

“I don’t understand why you’re angry, but this is my mansion, and I was merely performing a magical ritual. I’m not causing anyone any trouble. Can you leave?”

Kahn spoke as if trying to reason with them, despite their hostility.

“Your arguments make sense, but unfortunately, necromancy is forbidden. You can’t claim ignorance. Face judgment by my sword.”

Rath closed the distance between them as he spoke.

“That’s also something people decided. Human lifespan is insufficient to master magic. That’s why I sought eternity, nothing more.”

Kahn began chanting a spell quietly as Rath approached.

“I won’t let you!”

Rath closed the distance quickly, aiming his sword at Kahn’s throat.

Kahn dodged with a slight movement and kicked Rath in the torso.

“Ugh!”

Despite the armor, the powerful blow lifted Rath off his feet and sent him flying backward.

“For your age, you’re quite strong,”

Rath said, touching the spot where he was kicked, clearly trying to hide his frustration.

“Even as the Immortal King or a vampire, physical strength and magic power improve significantly! Be cautious!”

Luciana shouted.

Kahn directed the spell he had finished chanting at Luciana.

Instead of a wand, Light emanated from his fingers, transforming into lightning that struck at Luciana.

She swung her staff, creating a magical barrier,

but the lightning easily pierced through, causing her some damage.

“Ugh…”

Luciana’s face twisted in pain.

“Sister!”

Killian threw a bottle of holy water at Kahn.

The liquid hit, soaking Kahn’s body,

and his skin began to blister and redden.

“So, even immortal react to holy water,”

Kahn observed his blistering skin as if it were someone else’s problem.

Rath and Killian timed their attack, striking at Kahn together.

Kahn dodged their swords with expert precision, like a master.

“You monster!”

Despite Rath’s confidence in his sword skills, he was shocked to find them ineffective against an unarmed opponent.

Kahn deflected their swords with his hands and countered with punches and kicks.

Thanks to his armor, Rath wasn’t seriously injured, but Kahn showed no signs of fatigue.

Killian threw holy water a few more times, but it wasn’t very effective.

Luciana’s spells also had no impact due to vampirized Kahn’s high resistance to magic after becoming immortal.

They had to keep fighting to prevent Kahn from chanting more spells. It was clear their strength would run out first, leading to their defeat.

“Maybe we should have left after all…”

Luciana murmured.

“I don’t mind if you leave now. I’m not interested in you,”

Kahn said magnanimously.

“How condescending…”

Rath’s face showed clear fatigue despite his words. Killian was also breathing heavily.

Kahn hadn’t shown any expression from the beginning, nor did he seem tired or injured.

But then, a moment of silence fell over the basement, and Luna on the altar moved slightly with a groan.

“Could she be… alive?”

Rath’s eyes widened. Luciana and Killian were also surprised.

Luna quickly stopped moving again.

Rath glared at Kahn.

“Are you not the Immortal King?”

“Ah, I stopped being that.”

Kahn admitted it as if it were nothing.

“Why?”

“That has nothing to do with you.”

“Is that so… I see.”

Rath exhaled slowly.

“Luciana, bring out the mirror.”

“Understood.”

Luciana took out a mirror the size of a human head.

“Is that…”

For the first time, Kahn’s expression changed.

The ‘Mirror of the Sun’ was known to those in the magical arts. It absorbed sunlight during the day and could reproduce its brilliance at night. It was an ancient tool used to hunt vampires.

“Why do you have such a thing?”

The ‘Mirror of the Sun’ was created by the people of Asura and could no longer be made. It was often used by royalty to legitimize their authority and rarely circulated among the general public.

“That’s none of your business. Luciana, do it.”

At Rath’s command, Luciana infused the mirror with magic.

The mirror projected the sun, emitting a brilliant light that illuminated the entire basement.

Kahn immediately shielded his face with his arm, but his exposed skin began to smoke and blister.

“Ugh…”

Kahn’s arm cracked and began to disintegrate under the intense light.

Khan is unable to move from that position.

Rath approached Kahn in a low stance and plunged his sword into Kahn’s heart.

“Ugh…”

Blood gushed from Kahn’s mouth as he slowly collapsed.

“That’s enough.”

Rath instructed Luciana to put away the mirror.

“Lord Rath, could Kahn still be alive?”

Luciana voiced her concern.

“It doesn’t matter. He can’t move and has only a little time left.”

Luciana put the mirror back into her robe.

Rath walked slowly towards Luna.

“Wake up, Luna. Open your eyes.”

Rath shook Luna’s body roughly.

“Ugh…”

Luna woke up, wincing in pain as she touched her neck.

“Why is Rath here?”

Luna, still groggy, recognized Rath.

“Do you remember what happened to you?”

“Um… I think Master… huh?”

Seeing the blood on her hand from her neck, Luna recalled what happened just before she lost consciousness.

“Master bit me!”

Luna’s awareness returned in an instant, and she shouted.

“Where is Master?”

“He’s over there.”

Rath pointed to where Kahn lay.

“Why?”

“He turned into a vampire. We defeated him.”

Rath answered matter-of-factly.

“Why did Master become a vampire?”

Luna was in shock.

“Ask him yourself. There’s still time.”

Rath carried Luna to where Kahn lay and helped her stand.

“Master, why did you become a vampire?”
