The Suspects of Necromancy Volume 1 Chapter 10

Conrad was organizing his thoughts.

Most of what he heard from Luna was about her daily life, which didn’t interest him much since he wasn’t familiar with the common folk’s lifestyle. However, there were several important pieces of information.

Kahn was indeed a necromancer and seemed to be quite powerful.

Though it was said he couldn’t control a skeletal dragon, it was possible that he hadn’t taught Luna everything and might have reached that level.

He also gathered details about Kahn’s mansion.

The garden was full of ghouls that would grab and attack anyone who entered uninvited.

What a terrifying trap.

Inside the mansion were three skeletons known as Grim Reapers,

high-level undead wielding scythes. Conrad wasn’t sure if his knights could defeat them.

He judged that it was too dangerous to force their way in. To reach Kahn safely, he needed Luna’s cooperation.

In order to reach Khan without fail, he needed Luna’s cooperation.

So he asked Luna to talk to him.

“Luna, there’s a possibility that Kahn’s life is in danger.”

“My master’s? Why?”

Luna asked curiously, seemingly unaware of the situation.

“Currently, the Kingdom of Rama is at war with rebel forces and is facing heavy losses. However, this hasn’t been disclosed to the citizens to prevent unnecessary panic.”

The Kingdom of Rama, having built a vast empire, began to crumble when the martial king fell ill. Rebellions erupted everywhere, uniting under an anti-Rama banner, creating a significant upheaval.

The numerically superior rebels were repeatedly defeating the Rama forces, leaving the kingdom in a precarious state.

But the battles were far from the capital, making it seem distant to its citizens.

“Hmm,”

Luna responded indifferently, likely thinking that the distant war had nothing to do with her.

“However, the tide is turning. A single wizard is repelling the rebels using an army of undead.”

This wasn’t widely known, but the previously dominant rebel forces had their main armies decimated by these sudden undead attacks.

The rebels were hiding their defeats to maintain morale, while the Rama forces, embarrassed to admit their reliance on undead, kept it low-key.

“Are you saying that’s my master? I don’t think he can create an army of undead.”

Luna tilted her head in disbelief.

“We don’t know for sure. But it’s unlikely that the undead are attacking the rebels on their own. There must be a powerful necromancer behind them. A skeletal dragon has even been confirmed. It’s a fearsome opponent that even a large army can’t defeat. Both Rama and the rebels are desperately searching for this wizard. Rama wants to protect him, while the rebels want to kill him.”

A skeletal dragon is a top-tier monster. Though not as powerful as a living dragon, it’s hard to damage without anti-undead equipment, making it a formidable foe.

The rebels didn’t have such gear, making the undead even more troublesome.

“I understand the situation a bit, but there must be other necromancers besides my master, right?”

“Actually, necromancy is still forbidden. Only formally trained mages know this, but practicing necromancy is a crime. So, there are very few necromancers.”

“Necromancy is forbidden? I had no idea!”

Luna covered her mouth, eyes wide in shock.

“Not only that. You mentioned Kahn was away a month ago, but during that time, there was a significant battle between Rama and the rebels. The rebels suffered a huge defeat due to undead attacks. This can’t be a coincidence. It’s highly likely Kahn was controlling those undead.”

Conrad clasped his hands and looked intently at Luna.

“We’re not here to accuse you. Luna, you weren’t formally trained and didn’t know. Plus, necromancy might be saving Rama. Even if Kahn is the wizard we’re looking for, we don’t intend to punish him.”

“So neither my master nor I will be punished? That’s a relief.”

Luna sighed in relief. to know that they would not be charged with any crime.

“That’s our intention, but not everyone in Rama feels the same about necromancers. There’s debate over their treatment, and the rebels definitely want them dead. Kahn’s life is in danger regardless of whether he’s the wizard or not. Since necromancy is forbidden by nature, They won’t hesitate to kill anyone suspected of necromancy.”

“What should I do?”

“Take us to Kahn. We’ll guide him to a safe place.”

“Let me consult with my master first. I can’t just bring strangers to our mansion.”

“No, we must hurry. I’m concerned about this person named Rath. He was trying hard to free you from Kahn. Maybe he knew Kahn was a necromancer.”

“I really don’t know anyone named Rath. I should know all the important people in this capital, but that name doesn’t ring a bell. As for Killian, that’s a common name. Our knight captain is named Killian too, though he’s over sixty.”

“Rath might be a rebel or or even if they are from within the kingdom, someone opposed to necromancy. He could have been trying to gather information about Kahn and if they find out that he is a necromancer, they may be willing to eliminate him.”

“Rath? He was curious about my master, but I don’t think that’s true.”

“It’s just a possibility. But Rama is crumbling with the king’s illness. The vast area of the Rama Kingdom was built by the current generation of His Majesty. There have been many failures, partly as a reaction to the rapid expansion.

The rapid expansion has left many cracks. Even within Rama, some are siding with the rebels. For them, the necromancer defeating the rebels is a threat. If Rama regains power, their betrayal will have been in vain. So, trustworthy allies are few.”

Conrad grasped Luna’s shoulders and stared into her red eyes.

“Please, trust us. We want to help you.”

Luna looked into Conrad’s eyes, then sighed softly.

“…Alright. I’ll guide you to my master. But can we go now?”

“No problem. It’ll be me and two of my men. They’re trustworthy.”

“Are there really no others you can trust?”

“Sadly, no.”

Conrad smiled bitterly.

“But don’t worry. My men and I are skilled knights. We’ll protect you no matter what.”

With that, Conrad left the room to call his men.

“Protect me, huh,”

Luna muttered, touching her shoulder where Conrad had grasped her.

“I don’t trust overly friendly men.”

Her words didn’t reach Conrad.

Conrad and his two men prepared themselves,

donning cloaks over their armor and wielding silver swords, effective against undead, as a precaution.

They were prepared for any eventuality.

“Sorry for the wait. Shall we go?”

Conrad addressed Luna, who had been leaning against the door.

“Yes. My story was long, and it’s gotten quite late.”

Opening the door, they saw the scenery bathed in twilight.
