“The One Who Squirms / The One Who Escapes”

“Why should I have to do something like that?!”

In a tunnel under an overpass, Akari vents her frustration at the man’s words in the darkness.

“If you want to do it, do it yourself! I have nothing to do with this!”

She throws these words at him and leaves the scene. She doesn’t understand. The weight of the risk.

If the incident of sending a letter to Erika Tojo or the false confession of cheating were to be exposed, it would be over.

This is different from elementary school bullying. Considering that boy’s current position, there’s a high chance of severe punishment. He has many allies. He’s not someone to make an enemy of. She doesn’t understand this.

The initial feelings of frustration had dissipated. She only thinks about living a peaceful school life. If she does something stupid and gets suspended or even expelled, it would be unbearable.

She didn’t want to cause trouble for her family. She didn’t want to let go of the happiness she had finally obtained.

He had saved her when she was about to drown during a beach trip. It’s frustrating, but he’s her benefactor.

She can’t bring herself to see him as an enemy. She’s different from that person. She can still turn back.

She blocks that person contact. She’s had enough of accompanying that person on the path to ruin.

Pretending to know nothing, pretending to be uninvolved, remaining an outsider until high school graduation.

— That was the most important goal for Akari Totoki.

Afterword

The long summer vacation is finally over, and at last, we’ve reached volume 5. Thank you always for your support! Thanks to all of you, we’ve somehow made it this far.

This time it was incredibly difficult to write, so I’m relieved that it’s finally been published. Originally, I had planned for the second semester to start at the beginning of volume 5, but due to accidentally changing the setting for that character, a sister who hadn’t appeared in the web version shows up, making it feel a bit like a side story. I could have made the conflicts and confrontations more intense, but there’s no point in straying too far, so I kept it moderate. Additionally, I reinforced the themes we’ve had so far and put a spotlight on the [future].

In romantic comedies, the relationship between the protagonist and the heroines often becomes one of “dependence,” but since this work is a romance-less romantic comedy, I’ve placed “independence” at the center of their relationships. However, because Yukito and the heroines have grown so significantly, it feels like they’re rushing through life too quickly. So, thinking they don’t need to be in such a hurry, the new developments in the second semester are full of events to enjoy the present! (The first semester was quite eventful too)

Of course, we’re still actively recruiting new residents, so that place will keep getting livelier.

Next time, I’ll provide a greatly expanded afterword, so let’s meet again on the next occasion!

TLNOTE : What a fun volume! Although if I complain a little, this novel is a tad bit too sweet than usual. The heart wrenching part is not enough !! Hopefully next volume will come out soon, see you !!!
