Mob #67: “If you grow weary of it, come home. But until then, carry out your work with pride.”
Come to think of it, I should’ve called the police myself instead of expecting the staff to.
Probably panicked since my parents were there.
Anyway, I have to keep Anchovy’s attention.
“Want to move locations? This is troublesome for the restaurant.”
“Who cares about the lowly commoners here?! I can even kill some! If you don’t like it, die now!”
Not good…
I thought to buy time till the police arrive but that’s impossible.
But thanks to her hatred focused my way, the customers are slowly escaping outside.
Though she could spray them with bullets anytime.
I grab a fallen silver tray and toss it to blind her while stepping out, shooting her right thigh before she knocks it away.
“Gahh!”
She screams, stance broken.
Of course that’s not enough so I approach to topple her while she’s off-balance, intending to shoot her other leg then disarm her. But the instant she screams and staggers, a beam strikes her head.
Eyes rolling back, she crumples limply.
“John! You okay?”
Seeing her collapse, Dad worriedly approaches.
“I’m fine! More importantly, save the scene and don’t go near her when she could be dangerous!”
I warn him and the other customers to avoid contaminating the scene.
She might regain consciousness after all.
Then I secure her gun with napkins from the table.
Looking towards the beam’s origin, a woman in a tight skirt suit holsters a gun while walking over.
“Sorry for the late response. Shooting was difficult from my original position so I moved.”
The woman, with blue eyes and long, slightly curly chestnut hair tied around her neck, is quite the beauty.
“No, you saved me, thank you very much.”
I stow my gun and thank her.
Sirens sound and police and an ambulance arrive.
Pink-head is restrained and stretcher-loaded away.
With forensics beginning, an officer speaks to me.
“Pardon me, involved parties?”
“That’s me.”
“Name and occupation?”
“John Uzos, mercenary.”
They likely suspect I’m somehow at fault – natural for police.
“And you, Ma’am?”
He questions the woman beside me.
“I am Rear Admiral Lunaris Bloodwell of the imperial navy. I hold the title of Countess and command the 5th fleet of the Central Navy Task Force. Today’s my off day – I was dining with a friend.”
Hearing that, the officer and I are wide-eyed.
She’s the famous 5th fleet commander, Rear Admiral Lunaris Bloodwell.
“Very well, I’ll be asking you both some questions and to give me a moment of your time.”
At the lead investigator’s order, officers start interviewing the customers and staff.
Finally, I can talk to my parents.
“You okay, John?”
“Did you do something to that girl?”
“She attacked because I earned more than her.”
I explain the facts to their worried faces.

“A disaster…”
“How unreasonable.”
They seem to believe me.
Unlike the guild, they actually listen rather than jumping to conclusions, really appreciated.
“Usually it’s ship work – stuff like this rarely happens in person.”
“Part of me wants you to quit immediately, but I know that’s impossible…”
“It’s…the only thing I can do…”
Mom makes a worried face, but I can’t quit this work now.
I worry them, yet this is something I can’t compromise on.
“If you grow weary of it, come home. But until then, carry out your work with pride.”
Somehow Dad seems vaguely happy saying that.
In questioning all staff and customers, everyone including my parents stated unanimously:
- Pink-head drew her gun first.
- She called them lowly commoners and said “I could kill some of you!”
The security footage also captured everything audio and video.
And thanks to Fifth Fleet Commander Rear Admiral Lunaris Bloodwell’s testimony, plus the police manhunt order for pink-head, my self-defense and innocence were affirmed.
Incidentally, the beam weapon Rear Admiral Bloodwell had was a Neosouth Tri-shot – it switches between a photon gun, thermal gun, and paralysis gun. The imperial navy also holds emergency arrest authority, so they formally adopt the multi-mode Tri-shot based on circumstances.
But most still only carry it as a backup, preferring their personal preference sidearm.
She chose paralysis mode due to the children present, apparently.
And the manager of the Pegathuth Meteor family restaurant branch at Parlbear Station, caught up in this incident, announced that all involved customers’ meals would be free, promised to enhance security and facilities going forward, and humbly requested continued patronage.
With all matters resolved, we were finally released.
The So-Called Heroine’s Side: Anchovy Chantelier
When I regained consciousness, I was in water.
An oxygen mask is on my mouth.
Seems I’m in a regeneration capsule.
To treat the leg that lowly commoner shot, surely.
The capsule is overkill for that, but the finest care for me, a noble, is natural.
That wretched commoner had me treated as a criminal.
But right after I was jailed, someone freed and provided me with clothes, funds, a gun, and a thermal reflection suit.
They said to meet their leader who’d helped me, but they should come greet me themselves!
Anyway, being saved means I’m clearly god’s chosen one!
My esteemed father the Baron was falsely accused, stripped of title and his Chantelier Company.
Forced to sell the estate and live in wretched apartments, our lifestyle grew impoverished.
Luckily I was confident in my skill with guns and piloting, so I became a mercenary to establish myself.
With my ability, I could reach the top Queen rank in under a year!
And upon becoming the highest rank, I will make that damned Emperor who ruined my father grovel in the dirt!
Yet the guild won’t raise me above Knight rank.
Requirements to take the exam?!
Why should I agree to such conditions?!
That receptionist is the Emperor’s pawn, denying me the promotion exam!
Once this treatment ends, I’ll immediately head to attack them!
Oh right, that commoner [Plumed Helmet] got promoted over me.
I’ll allow him the honor of joining my forces.
He’ll be moved to tears!
The gorgeous vengeance drama of this tragic heroine is just beginning!
Then I heard a voice from outside the capsule.
The commoner who’d provided me various things before.
Admirable loyalty hurrying to me. I’ll praise him.
What? What did you say?!
Huh? Odd…my heart’s…pounding…violently…
My vision…going…dark…

“Is it really okay? To waste that disposable asset.”
“She wouldn’t obey us. Tools that don’t obey get discarded. And now the 5th fleet commander saw her face. We can’t plant her as a sleeper agent either.”
“Only choice is to dump her then. So that’s the stuff huh?”
“Yeah. Mixing this into the treatment fluid will make it look like a heart attack. No trace of the drug either…injection complete. Come on, let’s head back and drink up.”
“Yes, let’s.”
UNKNOWN Side: End
