Strongest in the Supernatural School Volume 2 chapter 2 part 2

On the other hand, Kurashiki is… wow, she’s really diving into the Class B crowd, isn’t she? What a social monster. How does she have friends in other classes when I barely have any in my own?

As I was pondering this, I felt a presence approaching.

“Amamori-kun, what do you think about this whole situation?”

“Please don’t talk to me. I don’t want your perverseness to rub off on me.”

“A-Ah, it’s not like that…!”

I took a few steps back from Asahina.

Come to think of it, I heard she waited in front of the bathroom for a really long time after that incident.

Kurashiki contacted me, saying something like “By the way, I’m already back in the dorm. I definitely don’t think you’re still waiting in front of the bathroom or anything.” Then the call ended with an embarrassed voice. Sorry, Asahina-san, but you had the wrong person this time.

“And why are you asking me? If you want to ask someone, go to Kurashiki, Kurotsuki, or Karasuma.”

“Hotaru-san is like that, and I’ve already asked Kurotsuki-kun. I can’t trust Karasuma-kun, he’s too much of a playboy.”

“I think I heard my name being slandered from over there.”

I thought I heard Karasuma’s voice in the distance, and inwardly chuckled at it.

Then I glanced at Asahina.

“…What did Kurotsuki say?”

“[Each of Class A, B, and C need to be balanced.] That’s what he said. There should be someone in Class A and B comparable to me and Kurotsuki-kun in Class C. I agree with that assessment, and I wanted to consult you about it.”

So Kurotsuki already knew from the beginning, huh. That makes sense.

Actually, if he understood it, why did he ask me? Well, I can’t really complain since I didn’t answer him. But I’ve decided I won’t answer him next time either.

“Rather, I don’t think you should just be focusing on [the immediate situation] in front of you.”

If you only look at the present, you’ll get swept off your feet. However, not considering the future is completely unacceptable.

The immediate concern is Class B. But the real enemy is undoubtedly Class A, with Tsukihime Tachibana.

It’s also too much to say that you should be wary of unfamiliar people, and Tsukihime has been exceptionally good at demonstrating the threat of Netsuhara Nagashi. Hoping for Asahina to notice is also a bit–

“–I wonder if Amamori-kun thinks the same way. I’m curious about Class A.”

……I became a little interested in that remark.

When I looked at her directly, Asahina-san began to speak.

“Our shared understanding is that each class has been allocated an equal amount of combat strength. If that’s the case, then something’s off. Class C, blessed with me, Kurotsuki-kun, and many others, can’t possibly be balanced by just Nagashi Netsuhara alone.”

“That may not necessarily be the case. If you’re referring only to raw power, then yes, but that man also has strategic acumen. In fact, if Kurotsuki hadn’t acted, Class C would have been defeated by him alone.”

I couldn’t help but want to refute her [argument].

However, this is just my stubbornness. She is correct, and trying to arrive at the right answer. It’s like questioning the person who gave the right answer in a quiz.

In response, Asahina-san was ready with a perfect counterargument.

“But we won. Therefore, Netsuhara Nagashi of Class A is clearly inferior to the total strength of Class C.”

Exactly right. It was a flawless model answer.

I set aside my own defeat, swallowing any bitterness or regret, and take a bird’s-eye view for the future.

If I were in her position, I would undoubtedly do the same. Then, her actions are the correct ones.

Defeat is not a shackle that drags you down, but nourishment to move forward.

If I had opened my mouth to complain about my own loss, you would have been disappointed in me.

“So, what’s the conclusion?”

“There’s a possibility that there is someone even greater than Netsuhara-kun lurking in both Class A and Class B.”

Greater than Netsuhara-kun, huh. I affirmed her thoughts in my mind after hearing that.

But it wouldn’t be fun to just agree all the time. If you and Kurotsuki have come to that conclusion, let me offer a slightly different perspective.

“I hadn’t thought of that, but… I think you’re mostly right. However, while Class C has individual members with outstanding strength, Class A and Class B may not be the same.”

“…? What do you mean by that?”

“I mean, the students in those classes may be strong on average, rather than having standout individuals.”

For example, Class A has Tsukihime, so it can be imagined as her one-woman team. But Class B is still a mystery. It’s possible that there are no exceptional [individuals] in Class B, and they are considered on par with other classes through the collective strength of the students.

Honestly, I do think Asahina’s explanation is correct.

But that doesn’t mean we should abandon thinking.

“…I see. Considering it, that possibility did exist.”

“Who knows.

I’m just an idiot who can’t even solve math problems.”

I’m a fool who can’t even do math or have high IQ like you. Probably. Definitely.

So, it’s your job to delve into the details and think it through.

Both last time and now, my stance remains the same.

I leave everything to others. But I’ll help at the critical moment.

That’s why I’ve also got Kurashiki and Kurotsuki moving.

…Well, if I’m the one who gets directly targeted, like with Kiridou, then the story’s different. In that case, I won’t go through Asahina-san, but will take care of it myself directly.

But I’d like to believe that rarely happens.

“Anyway. –Don’t betray my expectations again.”

As I said that, she firmly nodded in response.

Seeing that, I averted my gaze and started walking towards where the Literature Club members were gathered.

“Huh? Amamori, can you come over here? Weren’t you two having a heated discussion?”

“Are your eyes rotten, Higarashi? What topic would I have to discuss so passionately with that pervert?”

I heard a sneeze from behind me, likely from Asahina-san.

Ignoring it, Ishino looked at me with a wry smile.

“Ah, Amamori-kun… You shouldn’t say such things about Asahina-san.”

“Asahina…? I don’t know that name, but I don’t discriminate by gender.”

“Oh ho! So you’re a gender equality advocate, are you!”

Tendo came over, a little excitedly.

She traced her eyepatch (which was just barely within the school rules) with her finger, giving a meaningful smile. But it was probably meaningless.

“Will you, under the banner of gender equality, become a [Dark Abyss Holder] like me?”

“Translated, Tendo is inviting you to be her chuunibyou friend, so what will you do, Amamori?”

Manabe translated Tendo’s words. I politely declined.

“No, sorry, I don’t really understand that kind of thing. But I’m not disinterested, so if you have time to explain it to me later, I’d appreciate it.”

“Oh my, did you all see that? Amamori-san is such a nice person!”

“Ahaha… Well, the fact that Asahina-san has been so involved with him means he can’t be a bad person, I guess.”

Isshino with a wry chuckle… “Wait a minute.”

I didn’t mean to be fussy about how good or bad people are perceived, but it seems I was seen that way.

It’s a bit embarrassing, really. I hope Asahina-san takes it a little bit to heart as well.

As they were discussing, quite a bit of time had already passed.

“Hey! Is everyone here yet?”

The gymnasium doors opened to an unfamiliar, drawn-out voice.

There stood Teacher Sakaki, the Class C homeroom teacher, and a female teacher who was likely the Class B homeroom teacher.

I didn’t know her face, but I had gathered information about her personality and abilities from [a collaborator].

If I recall correctly, her name was– [Honoka Tenzai].

She was bright and energetic, with a gentle demeanor, but in reality, she was a doomsday fanatic.

Once you’re fooled by her outward appearance and first impression, she could surely bring about your downfall – a truly dangerous person.

Honestly, it was the first time I was glad that Sakaki-sensei was our homeroom teacher.

“Well then, a bit early, but let me explain today’s activity,”

the smiling Tenzai said, narrowing her gentle eyes as she gathered the students.

What she explained was the purpose of the joint special abilities training.

“This time, you all will be fighting under the same conditions as a real [battle request]. In other words, it’s an all-out battle to the death, with special abilities and violence allowed.”

At these ominous words, murmurs rippled mainly from the Class C students.

The Class B students, on the other hand, had dead eyes. Poor things, they didn’t have a teacher like Sakaki-sensei.

“To supplement Tenzai’s explanation, this is training to get you accustomed to battle requests, which you will soon be stepping onto that stage. However, if that’s your first time, you may miss opportunities for victory. Therefore, you must adapt to the battlefield environment now. That is the purpose of today’s exercise.”

This time, murmurs came from the Class B students. From among them, a voice could be heard saying “The teacher is normal……”

I felt saddened and pressed my temple. Could it be that Sakaki-sensei seemed ordinary to the Class B students?…
