After the unimaginable destruction, a huge bowl-shaped hole had opened up in the plain. Bodies were piled up inside the hole as well. Several bodies were piled up.
“Fufu, this is excessive. It’s practically a meat grinder of corpses.”
When they heard Gami’s words, even his guards frowned. But the description was correct.
The demon corpses had their arms and necks severed, their torsos too, some even split down the middle from head to toe.
The human corpses, however, were more extreme. Bodies pulled apart, flattened, twisted, as if played with recklessly by a child with no sense of moderation.
“Phew, it stinks to high heaven. My nose feels like it’s going to fall off.”
Gami descended into the pit, which was filled with the stench of guts and blood. Even seasoned soldiers would frown here.
Gami reached the depths of the pit and found a giant collapsed there.
It was Garios.
The man who had run amok as the mightiest in the Demon King’s army was now lying limply with splayed limbs, staring vacantly into the sky.
The mighty hands and feet that had traversed countless battlefields, slicing through rock and piercing earth, were now charred black. All the fingers on his left hand were blown off, and a broken spear protruded from his right thigh.
His chest wounds were especially severe. The oversized breastplate, too large for even most demons to wear, had been cut diagonally in half. The sliced breast meat could be seen in the cross section.
When Gami saw Garios collapsed on the ground, his gaze circled up and down. Then, as if he realized something, he raised his eyebrows and brought his stubby hand to his chest.
“Ah, Lord Garios. To perish in such a place, your martial exploits will now turn to dust. The Demon King’s wishes also remain unfulfilled, we demons are without hope. Things being what they are, I Gami can only follow my lord into death. Alas, why create death? If the lord dies, there will be no big tree for us to take shelter under. I can only sigh at my lord’s passing…”
Gami sang about death as if she were singing a song.
Hearing this voice, Garios, who was lying on the ground, suddenly opened his eyes wide, raised his upper body vigorously, and let out an earth-shattering roar.
“Damn annoying! Who’s dead!?”
A thunderous voice rang out across the battlefield. Gami’s guards were so startled by his roar that they jumped. But Gami in front of him, his voice bombarding him, showed no fear and continued to speak.
“Ah, Lord Garios, so you are still alive?”
“Obviously! Who went and died?”
“To learn that my lord is still alive, Gami is moved to tears of gratitude.”
“Say that after you’ve shed a single tear!”
Garios’ voice boomed like thunder, but Gami pretended he hadn’t heard him and looked around.
“So you collapsed here… Could it be… Did you lose?”
Gami laughed dramatically, acting out his role.
The intelligence chief’s little tricks set Garios’ anger on fire.
“As if I lost! Don’t fool around!”
“Then where is the prince’s body? Was he pulverized?”
Gami looked around. There was no body of the prince of the Kingdom of Lionel , nor any trace of him nearby.
“Ah, that guy is over there.”
Garios pointed to the sky with the fingers of his blown off left hand.
Though the severed fingers could not point in any direction, his raised left hand reached beyond the bowl-shaped abyss of the hollow toward the human headquarters on the hill.
“With my last blow, I sent him flying over there.”
In front of Garios’ eyes, the collapsed tents of the human position could be seen. Human soldiers were gathering in confusion.
“He flew that far? While I already knew about your freakish strength…”
Seeing the chaos in the enemy camp in the distance, even Gami uttered sounds of admiration.
“I got hit pretty bad too.”
He looked at Garios’ open chest.
“So you killed him?”
“Yes, it was definitely a good feeling, although I can’t confirm the corpse. But he’s definitely dead now.”
Gami nodded at Garios’ answer, certainly. Even if he was still alive somehow, he couldn’t be unharmed.
“What do you think, Lord Garios? This lord was a tough opponent, no?”
“Hm? Ah, yes. He beat me like that, too.”
Garios held up the club in his right hand.
It was a thick stick, which could be called an ordinary lump of metal. Impossible to swing without Garios’ strength. Even demons proud of their power would need three people to transport it.
This club, which had crossed countless battlefields, split rocks and pierced the earth, was now cut in two. The cut surface shone like a mirror. A finger running along the jagged edge could almost draw blood.
Garios tossed his longtime partner aside. He tore off his slashed breastplate.
Beneath the armor, an enormous wound ran from his chest to his waist.
Not only pink flesh, but even bone was visible in the gash. But Garios’ expression was indifferent to any pain or irritation.
A fatal blow for an ordinary demon, but Garios crawled up as if it were nothing. He pulled out the spear stuck in his leg, and sloppily wiped the wound with pieces of his clothing. The bleeding had already stopped.
“Hmph!”
Garios grunted. His muscles swelled, the flesh over the wounds bulged, and even the badly torn chest wound closed. The bleeding from his fingers stopped, and the pierced leg wound healed as well.
This vitality surprised even the soldiers around him.
“As expected from my lord. A truly immortal body. It reminds me of when you fought the Demon King.”
“Ah, I really almost died then.”
Hearing Gami, Garios cheerfully remembered his brush with death in the past.
“You are the only one who fought the Demon King and survived, my lord.”
“That’s right. Gami, did this lord really kill my brother?”
Garios answered Gami’s words with a question mark.
“It is said that the prince defeated the demon king. Does that bother you?”

“No, he was strong. Really, really strong. Probably stronger than Gareth. But I don’t think he could have killed my brother at that level.”
Garios tilted his head.
“Then I cannot answer either. If it were a battlefield development, I could answer, but individual bravery and contests are not my area of expertise. However, Lord Garios, were there not things like counters and tactics involved in this battle?”
“I suppose so. He’s already dead, so what the hell.”
He immediately dismissed the question he had asked himself and settled it easily.
“So what’s next? Since you fought the prince, I’ll listen to you for now, as we agreed.”
If he was allowed to fight the lord, he would listen to Gami. There was this agreement between them.
“Then please kill the false demon king, the commander of the Third Army.”
Gami finally revealed his true goal.
“Will the soldiers follow me? Will it really be that easy?”
Garios tilted his head, but Gami guaranteed it.
“With the Milord’s power, the soldiers will follow.
“Let me say this first, Gami. I don’t want to take weaklings as comrades.”
“It will only be a matter of routing Barbar’s army and reorganizing it under Roban. It won’t be a problem, my lord. We need to absorb from the weak areas after we crush them once.”
“The Third Army? I understand. Where is Barbar’s army again?”
“To the east, in a land called the Kingdom of Hamir, I think.”
Gami took out a map and pointed to the location of the Third Army. Just below it was a place marked “Cashu”.
“Then I’ll kick anyone out of the way and advance.”
“Yes, milord. Let us destroy and slaughter to our hearts’ content as we boldly push forward.”
Gami and Garios. Two twisted dragons smiled.
