Female Soldier Infiltration Volume 1 Chapter 4 part 7

Many students had already gathered at reception. Their presence here meant they held invitations so chances of it getting stolen were low. The scenario could change this much just like that after all.

Raze relaxes her shoulders, standing in line at reception with Folia.

But an irregularity occurs here that she didn’t foresee.

“Miss Folia, good thing… Hm? Wasn’t Lord Luca in the lobby waiting…?”

Seemingly having come to check if Folia was able to participate without incident, Carne calls out noticing her in line. The contents make Raze’s eyes fly wide.

“Eh?! That’s bad! I’ll head back to the dorm! Go on ahead Raze!”

“Fo-Folia!”

The moment she hears that, Folia leaves the line exiting the hall without even a lookup back.

(You’re kidding me!)

The goal was right before their eyes yet in a flash Folia’s figure disappears into the crowd.

Trying to chase after her quickly, Raze also attempts leaving line but is hindered by her arm being seized.

“C-could it be, I said something unnecessary…?”

There was Carne who realized her slip of the tongue, her color drained.

“I thought if she came with any student of status, her invitation wouldn’t get stolen so I called out to Lord Luca who she was friendly with but—”

“It’s fine. I’ll take care of it somehow.”

Swallowing back feelings of impatience at her own mistake, Raze reassures her.

If she had notified them beforehand that she would be bringing Folia here via transfer magic then this wouldn’t have happened.

Managing to slip free of Carne Raze hurries after Folia.

“Folia!”

Spotting the back of Folia running down the corridor alone in her dress, Raze calls her name.

“Ra-Raze?!”

“Do you have your invitation?!”

When Raze arrived at the reception, the first thing she asked Folia was whether she had delivered the invitation properly.

“Huh? Yeah, I did— Oh?”

However, the letter that should have been in Folia’s hands just a moment ago was gone.

“Oh no… I think when I bumped into someone earlier…”

In her hurry to get to Luca, she must have dropped it.

Realizing the invitation had gone missing, Folia’s face drained of color.

(Darn it–)

Raze cursed internally, but quickly shifted her thoughts.

“I figured it might happen. Here, looks like you dropped this. I picked it up for you,”

she smoothly lied, handing her own invitation to Folia.

“Thank you, Raze!”

“And if we’re going to meet Lord Luca, it’d be faster if I went with you.”

To swiftly extricate Folia from further harm, Raze shifted to getting her to the party as soon as possible.

Without waiting for a response, Raze teleported them both to the dorm lobby.

“Huh?”

Catching up to the sudden event seemed to overwhelm Folia, whose cute little voice squeaked out.

“We’ve arrived. Go find him,”

“Oh, uh, yes!”

Though still flustered, Folia went to search for Luca, conscious of the dwindling time.

“Lord Luca!”

“Wha—”

As Carne had said, Luca was in the lobby waiting.

Seeing Folia dressed to the nines, he froze.

“I’m so sorry… I didn’t know you were waiting for me…”

“I-I wasn’t waiting just for you!”

(So this is a tsundere…)

Raze observed Luca’s reaction to Folia from the sidelines.

Ogling a cute angel is one thing, but Raze hoped he wouldn’t try to get her alone.

Noticing Raze’s eyes on them, Luca straightened his expression.

“Let’s go. The party’s starting.”

As a noble to the bone, he was harsh on the commoners. He seemed to have opened his heart to the angel Folia, but had not done the same for Raze.

Feeling his cold gaze, Raze paid it no mind.

“Pardon me. Since it was my mistake, please allow me to escort you,”

she said, giving them no room to refuse as she whisked them off to the venue.

“Wha…”

“Thank you, Raze!”

Unlike Folia, who was unfazed by the third teleport, a small gasp escaped Luca as the scenery abruptly changed before his eyes.

“She teleported us… and there’s no motion sickness at all?”

he muttered in astonishment, gaping at Raze.

Sensitive to magical interference, Luca tended to become quite nauseous when caught up in someone else’s teleport. He was shocked that it hadn’t happened. But rather than meet his staring eyes, Raze was focused on scanning their surroundings for anything that might disturb Folia.

With barely anyone left at the entrance, Raze breathed a sigh of relief after making sure the two had properly checked in.

“Raze?”

“Sorry. My stomach’s hurting a bit so I need to use the restroom.”

“Oh no, are you alright?” asked Folia.

“I’m fine. Lord Strainge, please take care of Folia for me.”

Raze fed them a common excuse and moved to her next action.

(Time to go greet the one who stole my angel’s invitation.)

Once out of sight, Raze completely erased her presence with illusion magic and teleported using the marking she had placed on Folia’s invitation.

(If it were me, I’d have disposed of any evidence right away. But to think I’d be backtracking it like this… These noblewomen have no concept they could be caught.)

Raze teleported beside the person hiding Folia’s invitation, near a window overlooking the party hall. It had been simple to identify the culprit. Raze gazed coldly at her, disappointed it hadn’t posed more of a challenge like it would have if the thief was a professional.

“Why is she here with him… With Lord Luca…”

the girl muttered, eyeing Folia jealously.

“It’s not nice to steal others’ belongings, Lady Hunger.”

Raze altered her voice to a whisper by the girl’s ear.

Olivia jumped, thoroughly startled as she whipped around. But with Raze’s illusion magic hiding her presence, there was no one.

“Wha-what…?”

“I’ll be taking back what you stole,”

said Raze, using wind magic to neatly pluck the folded letter from Olivia’s ample sleeve.

“Does it make you happy to do what others dislike, in order to catch your beloved’s eye?”

“Eek!”

Seeing Olivia’s frightened reaction, Raze steeled her heart despite feeling like she was bullying the weak. She would turn evil for her angel’s sake.

“Consider this a warning. If you try that again, I will gather evidence and expose your misdeeds.”

Olivia’s knees buckled as she sank to the floor.

“I only wanted… Lord Luca…”

Beside Olivia’s muttered wish, the fanfare announcing Reuben’s birthday party rang out with Carne ‘s delighted voice.

Raze spotted Carne cozied up to the birthday boy Reuben, Folia and Luca beside them. They all seemed to be having a merry time.

Raze quietly left the party hall.

“Professor D was right.”

Returning to the dorm, Raze paid Olivia’s room a visit and recovered all the items she had stolen from Folia. So the one who had been targeting her angel was Olivia.

Raze got a real feel for the blindness borne of puberty and, well, love. It reminded her of just yesterday’s conversation with Professor D.

Rifling through someone’s room to check for stolen goods when she had no business being there in the first place, Raze knew she was pretty unhinged herself as she glanced at the clock on the wall.

“Alrighty. I’ve got an invitation and everything, so let’s go eat some cake.”

A specialist in teleportation magic, it hadn’t taken Raze twenty minutes to confirm Folia had entered the party safely, put Olivia in her place, return to the dorm to retrieve Folia’s items,

Raze then teleport back in front of the reception hall as if nothing had happened.

The most nerve-wracking part of teleporting is right after you’ve jumped. If it’s somewhere within sight then there’s no issue, but teleporting into an unknown situation carries risk. For work assignments that require teleportation, Raze would usually pair it with some kind of magic to conceal herself like she did with Olivia earlier—an advanced technique that was mandatory.

But this place wasn’t a battlefield or enemy territory. It was school grounds.

Raze didn’t feel the need to hide herself when teleporting here.

So without even realizing it, she was doing the unnecessarily tricky thing of assessing her surroundings the moment she arrived and avoiding collisions.

“Eek!”

So it wasn’t unusual for Raze’s sudden appearance to startle students.

“Oh, sorry about that.”

Not expecting anyone to be here with the party underway, she apologized with a surprised look.

(What’s going on here?)

There were four male students. One wore a tailcoat while the other three were in uniform.

Raze ignored the strange gathering and headed toward the reception bell.

“See that? She looks plain but I bet she’s a noble too.”

“That’s right. She’s late to His Highness’s birthday party. May look ordinary but she’s one of the new noble students this year.”

“So there’s no way a commoner like you could attend when she’s replacing us nobles.”

Right after Raze rang the bell, she turned around.

(Hey now. I get the feeling they just said something quite rude.)

There stood the three uniformed students cornering a meek boy in a tailcoat.

“Entry eligibility isn’t based on status,”

he asserted.

“Heh. Easy for you to say without an invite.”

“That’s because you—”

“What? “

The first uniformed boy cut him off with an intimidating glare.

Having heard enough to grasp the situation, Raze’s interest was piqued by their exchange.
