Chapter 21 Valiantly
The courtyard had become like a colosseum.
You could call it a training ground.
Apparently mock battles are common in special ability classes, since they need to hone their monster-fighting skills.
I can understand the need to train and polish themselves.
Just not why I’m being thrown in there with them.
In the waiting room before entering that colosseum, I was with Kirako.
Why is she even here…
While waiting for time to pass, I thought about having to fight Hakuhou…
“Alright, I’ll lose and push Kirako onto him.”
“I’ll kill you.”
Kirako directs intense killing intent at me, crushing my resolve.
W-why…?
“The Hakuhou family is famous, right? Nice, you’ll ride in luxury. I’m so jealous, for real.”
I recall what a classmate said.
Can’t tolerate you damn rich people.
Fall into ruin.
“No way! They’re one of the seven heroic families! They’ve got weird customs and it’d be hell being an outsider bride. I’d definitely get bullied by the mother-in-law and stuff…”
Kirako shivers.
What’s this seven heroic families thing?
Since I never remotely considered plunging into this world originally, I lack common sense about stuff like that.
I didn’t even know some cringeworthy phrase like seven heroic families.
Anyway.
I thought Kirako was similar to me, but her household is also distinguished.
So she’s more knowledgeable than me.
Also, if you got bullied by your mother-in-law, wouldn’t you just beat her silly?
I can’t imagine this girl obediently taking abuse.
“But still, your opponent has been training his special powers since childhood, right? No way you can win if you think about it.”
“It’s fine. I’ve got him overwhelmingly beat in scumminess.”
“Is combat ability determined by who’s more scummy?”
And who’s the scum, scum!
There’s no one in this world more virtuous than me.
[I think you need to relearn the definition of virtuous.]
“And the one who killed the oni was you, Kirako. I don’t have any attacking power with my ability…”
That’s right.
For some reason Hakuhou said I defeated it, but the one who landed the finishing blow on that oni was this miss gorilla woman Kirako.
Absolutely not me.
I think Kirako should have a bloody battle with Hakuhou.
“Quit whining and think how you can win.”
“No, impossible. Let’s just quickly raise the white flag intact. As stylishly as possible. (Got it, I’ll try my best)”
“Your true feelings are the opposite, and there’s no stylish way to raise a white flag.”
I don’t falter despite her glare.
No, there must be one.
A way to raise the flag without being lame or my reputation dropping.
Oh well.
I could say something like…I couldn’t bring myself to hurt a classmate.
That shows kindness.
Hold up, am I a genius?
With this, I don’t have to worry about anything.
I stand up while stretching and say:
“Alright, off to lose.”
“Win! You have to absolutely win! I don’t wanna marry someone like him. He’s rich but I’ll marry a man who doesn’t want anything from me and does all the housework!”
“That’s nothing to boast about, scum.”
Ignoring Kirako desperately calling at my back, I head into the colosseum.
Ahh, a pain.
Wanna go home.
Run away.
[So, what will you really do?]
The parasite questions me.
That’s why I’m saying.
I’ll lose nicely somehow.
[For someone so vague, your resolve to lose is strong!]
And so I headed to the scene of the decisive battle (with losing predetermined).
“Kuchinasi kun, you’re really fighting Hakuhou-kun.”
Thinking that, there was still an obstacle.
A space where no one should exist, where no one was.
Yet a small portion of it was vaguely distorted.
An error small enough that a normal person wouldn’t notice.
But I’m always aware of my surroundings.
To swiftly notice any dangerous omens that might attack me.
In other words, it’s exactly because I trust no one, because I’m a mass of distrust, that I don’t lose sight of Kakushigi and can seek her out.

“Kakushigi, huh.”
“…Being able to accurately locate me like that might make me lose confidence.”
“Too late for that.”
It’s because I don’t trust you that I can perceive you.
Please don’t make me state the obvious so late in the game.
“…Is it because you saw me naked?”
“No.”
What’s she suddenly talking about?
Seeing you naked held not an iota of value to me.
“We’re friends, right? So it’s only natural I can find you.”
“Uu…All of a sudden, I regret goading Young Master…”
She seems somewhat regretful.
…Hang on.
Did you just say goading?
Don’t tell me the reason that trash has been coming at me is because of you!?
[See, there it is. Like compensation for seeing her naked, or…]
Who the hell wanted to see her naked!? I’m the victim for suddenly being shown!
And I’ll say it again, I cannot find value in the opposite sex’s nudity.
So there is no compensation.
Yes, end of discussion!
“Well, after this is over let’s attend class together again.”
Since it’s a pain, I say something nice and start walking.
I’ve got to raise a stylishly graceful white flag now.
And push Kirako onto Hakuhou.
Having her around seems really troublesome with her household and stuff.
Plus it’s bad having someone nearby who I can’t easily deceive.
“..Hang on.”
I’m stopped again.
You still need something? This is irritating.
My irritation only grows.
“The way things are, it’s far too advantageous for Young Master. So just a little…”
Somehow, Kakushigi has come close.
Scary.
Like a ghost.
Oblivious to my feelings, she whispers somewhat merrily:
“Let’s cheat.”
I enter the colosseum (liberal translation).
Kotaro Hakuhou was waiting there before me.
Yoshihito Kuchinasi slowly walks toward him.
Looking at him like that, Kotaro smiles arrogantly and speaks.
“I’ll praise you for not running away.”
“Obviously. Since Kirako was brought up, I had no choice but to come. (Huh, would running have been better? Tell me sooner. Even though I didn’t run away…)”
In response, Yoshihito (outwardly) answered bravely.
